Why in the world would you want to disable them? If you get into a frontal accident, and your bulbs should have popped had they been on but due to this they didn't, the insurance adjuster will notice that. You will stand a much better chance of being denied your claim because you wanted to save the life of a pesky bulb. Please don't be stupid.

I doubt that anyone cares about extending the life of their bulbs. I just don't like the look of headlights on during the day. A quick reconnect of the harness (or whatever it is as there appears to be no cutting of wires necessary) will easily avoid any insurance problems, bulbs being intact or not.

If you get a chance to post some clearer pics that would be great.

No, I'm not kidding at all.

Popped as in broken do to impact while hot, the gas that prevents the fillament from burning escapes and therefor your filliment "pops".

The filliment inside the bulb will burn up if the glass breaks when the bulb is on. If the lights are off, it might break from impact, but it wont burn. If the insurance adjuster comes and sees your nicely broken lamp, bulb cracked and the filliment is still there, it shows that you didn't have your lights on. If its your unlucky day and you get the guy who knows what he is doing and isn't nice, they can [try to at least] deny your claim due to tampering with a safety device.

It's on the same line as removing your steering wheel or seats. You just took away the safety features (air bags) that the car was designed with. It's no longer the safe car that they origionally insured.

Makes note....if I were to disable DRL turn on headlight switch before or after sudden impact. I've heard of all kind of insurance loop holes but this has to be the worst one I've heard of. If they didnt see my bright blue 3,200 lbs car coming their way I doubt 2 headlights being on in the middle of the afternoon would have helped.

And we still dont know if this even works for a STI.

Why would an insurance inspector care about whether or not your DRLs were on or not?? I'm 99.999999% certain that he couldn't care less because it's during the DAY, ya know, sun's out and everything. BTW: It's not like you can't still turn on your headlights at night w/ this diy.

ya thats pretty ludicrous that the adjuster would deny you because you didnt have your DLR on in the day time. SO are u saying that all the cars that dont have DLR should get their accident claims denied also? Im sorry but thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard

They are called DAYTIME running lights for a reason. Its a proven fact that DAYTIME running lights help prevent accidents by allowing others to see you easier.

Maybe you should try calling an insurance agent and ask them what they think.

Bottom line is you are disabling a safety feature. If you want to risk it, go right ahead. It's your car, and your wallet.

if thats the case then all the cars without daytime running lights should be charged more money for insurance since my car has more safety features than theirs. and my bro just got in an accident and the adjuster didn't even glance at his headlights (which were busted)

That's why the insurance company asks 'Does your car have DRL?' during the quote process, as this gives you a slight discount on your premium... USAA does at least, IIRC $5-10/6 months? or perhaps per month.. not much, but it's somethin...

Ever since I started driving with my headlights on in my old '93 impreza I don't think anybody has pulled out in front of me dangerously. Before I started driving w/ the lights on, cars would pull out in front of me all the time. The DRL's definitely make any car way easier to see, which should be priority number one. A lot of people could care less how visible his/ her car is. To each his own!

I totally agree! Here in Canada its the law for cars to have DRL on anyting like 95 or newer... I can tell you it does make a difference!

Driving around Kelowna/Canada its way easier to see cars in the daytime when they have their lights on.

Just drove from Texas to Kelowna (2,400 miles) and I did notice a difference when driving in the states!

Also, how many people do you see driving around with no head lights on at Dusk (just as the sun is going down). Its still a bit light out but gettind dark... And the retards forget to turn their lights on...

Well if they had DRL, that wouldn't be an issue! They just won't have their tail lights on....

It should be mandatory everywhere to have DRL!
