Yup.

I got rid of the wheel locks. After putting the stockers on after last winter, I got a bit too excited and drove off with the key still on the locking lug. I found no way to get a replacement key, so had to get them off myself. With a simple wheel lock remover tool, they came off just like regular lugs. Worthless. I figure with the locks on, you are more apt to have a jacked up wheel while some turd tries to figure out how to get the wheel off.

is it possible to get like tougher-to-crack wheel locks? cuz if those guys can get the wheel locks off then... i dunno.. seems to me like wheel locks are just an obstacle that delays the thieves... anyways, are there any unique wheel locks? like the a4 ones that guy was talkin about?

Exploding wheel locks would be cool! Suck to have half a lug stuck in your neck.

Yes, and thankfully they didn't decide to destroy my interior or key my car. But the damage they did from the few minutes they were there cost my insurance company around $3500 and 6 weeks worth of repairs.

This reminds me of something I read about on a Porsche Forum.

The guys who left that Porsche sitting on its rotors used a hammer and chisel to break the studs off.

Now why wouldn't they just use a CO2 extinguisher, masonry chisel and hand sledge? The CO2 might just make the wheel lock shatter on impact.

But then, the shock to the wheel lock could be transferred to the wheel itself, thus risking structural integrity of the wheel, causing the wheel to be useless, too.

Glad I'm not a criminal.

It's not a lack of taste. Thieves are scum, but they aren't stupid. They steal common cars because there are so many more of them on the road to buy their stolen parts. Pro thieves aren't stealing cars to keep them, but to chop them and sell the parts.

I understand why they steal the cars they do, but if I'm gonna risk going to prison for stealing an automobile, chances are the car will have a yellow horse emblem on the front, and cost $25,000 for a brake job!!

Wow. I didn't know these extractors existed. Makes me ponder the merit of the whole McGard spline setup.

Meh. If a pro wants your car, he will take it. The people stealing wheels are just fencing them for a quick turn around and are most likely just amateurs. The next time you buy a replacement set of tires off ebay, just think who you might be supporting.

The real reason to get wheel locks is to disuade the real noobs, and make them go on to someone else's car. Same thing with alarms. They get you lower insurance and scare off dumb crooks. The pros dont care.

The biggest scam is the lojacks. They get you a nominally lower rate from your insurance because it is easier for your insurance to get back the car once its stolen. This gives them the option whether to pay you the blue book value or to pay for the repairs to your car. But a car stolen and recover is usually beet up real bad and never runs right again. Plus the theft recovery notice on your vehicle history the car is now worth substantially less. If your car is stolen, you probably dont want it back. You want the insurance money as a down payment on a new car.

Is your dealership C&C Motors in Whitby by any chance? One of the salesman there told me of an incedent where a new shipment of '06s were de-winged and left sitting on the rotors. IIRC this was back in September.
