are you sure it's coming from under there? It could be a shifter rattle.

Are you sure its not the glove box door? Mine rattled a little. Fixed with a piece of foam tape.

I don't think you will ever get rid of all the rattles. It seems like everytime I find the source of a rattle in my car and get it fixed another seems to appear. I just chalk it up to my car being an Impreza.

+1 for the glove box area clicking/ticking... I don't know if its the dash panels, door panels, or something in the glove box.

All four subarus (2 WRX's and 2 STi's) that I've ever owned all had the weird "dash rattle." It's somewhere inside the dash, but I have no idea where. There is a piece of plastic that is lose inside there. If you sit in the driver seat it sounds like it's coming from around the glove box area but if you sit in the passenger seat it sounds like it's coming more from the center, near where the stock clock would be.

The little cover that clips over the wire channel in the "home link" mirror was loose on my car and was making an annoying ticking/rattle that I woudl have SWORN was coming from the right side of the car.

Once I found/fixed that (whew!) I realized that the glove box door was making a "clunk" type of noise on sharp bumps. Haven't fixed that, but I'm sure a couple of those stick-on rubber feet you can get at the hardware store/Wal-Mart will cure that.

Another one to look out for is the Cruise Control button. That will make a buzzing noise esp. on concrete highways, and is easily fixed by disassembling the switch and stretching out the spring that goes behind the little ball bearing in the switch mechanism.

If you can find the rattle and fix it then good, otherwise just learn to ignore it. Like someone else said, you fix one rattle and then you notice another one. Especially with a car like the STI you're going to have rattles no matter what. One important thing to note, before you blame it on Subaru, my 04 BMW 330i had some creaks and rattles and so does my current 05 M3, so don't think if you get another car the rattles will go away.

+1 for the ticking noise coming from the glovebox. Yesterday afternoon I was trying to figure out from where it is coming from. It is annoying.

I have eliminated all of my rattles by siliconing the clips that attach the panels. The one in your glove box is probably caused by the strip near the windshield. Carefully pop that out and disconnect the temp sensor. Get some silicone caulk and inject some into the clips and reinstall. I have done this for all of my panels (gauge surrond, a-pillar, b-pillar, c-pillar, door cards, windshield strip, etc..) and I have no rattles. Needless to say, this is a high performance car with stiff suspension and very little sound deadening material.

I have definitely noticed the glovebox rattle, it's the most annoying one. I reach over and hold the glove box door (putting pressure on it in the upward direction) and it stops.

So who has fixed this particular rattle? Someone mentioned foam tape, if this is what you fixed, where did you apply the tape? I assume you left the latch assembly alone but just put it in the corners somewhere?

If it is a constant ticking, it may be part of the HVAC (fan)? One of my RX-7's had this problem. Turns out it was one of the fans back in there. A piece of tape was hitting it and voila....the ticking.
