Exclamation how many hard launches have you done in your STi

I know many of you baby your STi's and don't launch them (maybe rightfully so) but I also know that at least some of us launch our cars often at 5-6k without problems.. basically anyone who goes to a drag track etc... the question is just how bad is it for the STi? Obviously not as bad as it is for the wrx due to the beefier 6-speed, but I launched my car hard for the first time today and while it felt really good I also of course felt a little guilty about it..

so what are the stories? anyone here with 100+ launches at +5k with no problems, or do we need to be wary of hard launches?

I put this in the general section because it's mainly a question of the long-term capability/durability of the car, and not necessarily launching for the best time.

for information, I am talking ~5k launches with a swift cluch engagment, NOT sideslipping the pedal.

Probably close to 100 hard launches...not a joke...still on the stock clutch too. Ok read the post and 5K launches...no...but you dont have to rev to 5K to get a hard launch in this car IMO.

Probably 4-5 times. Trying for a good 0-60 after I got my Vishnu Stg 1 (4.0 sec!), but smelled a lot of clutch afterwards. I've done a couple taking family on demo rides, but mostly I baby it.

70 quarter mile passes and probably twice as many hard launches on the street. Stock clutch.

i'm well over 100, i do solo 2 at least 1-2 a week and thats at least 5-7 runs each and i've been doing it for 2 yrs.
my friend that also races has broken 5 axles, his stock clutch is starting to go, and rear dif.
we both launch hard but well off the line, the trick is that you want your tires to break free or all the presure will just be on the car, axles, difs, clutch.
my only problem is that my rear dif is starting to go... but everthing else is good

*i was just adding it up and i probaly did 35 events last year and 25 this year (due to an auto accedent). if you go at 5 runs each thats 300, but some u can't launch at so lets go with an even 250+ launches

how do you launch? I'm thinking the car has to be kind of made for it since SOA probably wouldn't have gotten under 5 seconds to 60 without some kind of a hard launch...

enlighten us!

i do the 1 2 3 method, pump the gas 3 times, it should be over 5 but not over 6, and then DUMP.

I think if I knew exactly how to do it...then I would. I know this sounds lame that I do not know how to launch, but this is my first stick and I dont feel like screwing up my sti with a crappy launch...

Do not dump the clutch on a STi. You will bog. Hold the clutch down a little bit more and then fully release it.
