ive done about 30 launches since i bought the car.i'd say about 3 or 4 of them have been full 7000rpm launches,no problems but i regret doing that big of a launch just because.but most of my launches are no more than 5g's.my clutch is slipping a lil bit but its not do to me launching the car,lol my girlfriend still needs a lil more help driving a manual, especiallly starting in first gear.but the car is running fine other than that.

About 10, but it was only bringing it up to 4k and letting the clutch out while giving it more gas. No dumping, no clutch smell.

Approaching 300. Stock clutch. No problems yet.

You don't have to beat on the car to get it off the line fast.

Launching isn't just for dragging.

I've done about 12 launches. Two of those were really awful bog type because I was still trying to figure it out. About half of my launches were between 4.5-5k and the rest were 3.5-4k (required a bit more slipping of the clutch.) Most of those were at the track (autox or driving school.) My technique for launching is to rev to 4-5k, pump the throttle, come off the clutch enough so that it starts to grab, then immediately give it more gas and come right off the clutch. Now that I've got the hang of it, the only thing I smell is rubber. The most important thing to remember is to fully commit to the launch. If you back off the gas you are going to bog and put a lot of strain on the car.

As for durability, from what I've read here and elsewhere, it is the axles you have to worry about, not really the tranny. If you want to drag the car, some people recommend bumping up the rear tire pressure to reduce traction somewhat and facilitate wheelspin.

Hmm okay got me there.... But still I wont do it... Lots of fast accels from a stop but not the 5-6K dumps... You can ready plenty about those in the "Warenty" forums and whining to SOA....

I wouldn't worry about launching this car.
If you know what you are doing you'll have no problems.

If you don't and smell clutch after each time you try, give up.

5500 and a quick cluctch release and all you should smell is rubber from the rear, along with a slight chirp.

SOA didn't beef up the cluct and tranny for nothin........

I just took it to MIR (Maryland Int. Raceway) and WOW! If I did these launches on my Evo my clutch would have been toast a long time ago. I did about 6 launches and bogged twice. The other 4 times 1.8 60' times. Not bad for the first time with the Sti. BTW - Ran a 13.3 @ 103mph with a horrible launch (2.0)... I didn't know you were sposed to shift at around 6K rpm until later so the 1.8 launches were all around 13.4-13.7...
