Would it have really been such a hassle for the Subie design engineers to provide a mechanism to hang the gas filler cap on the gas filler door while you're pumping gas? Every car I've ever had either has a little clip on the inside of the gas filler door or a notch cut in the gas cap to hang it off of the top of the gas filler door while you're pumping.

Although a minor deal, accommodating minor conveniences is the kind of thing that (for example) VW does quite well, even on their budget oriented cars. I think perhaps the later Subie designs (Tribeca, new Legacy) probably have more of these "everyday convenience" items built in.

(Oh, and YES I know I bought a no compromises performance vehicle and I should be lucky that the car has floor mats let alone a six-disc changer, yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah )

my gas door froze shut one morning. it really sucked because i was near out of gas and there was no chance of it melting, it was -10 that night. unfortunately i had to pry it open. my paint hates me a little more now. no car is perfect.

I drape the cord over the gas door latch. Its a bit of a balancing act, but works okay.

Ditto. You just need to act fast if a big gust of wind comes along. :-?

the door latch just so happens to hold the cap, it fits in between the latch and the door cover. Place the cap with the black part toward the cover and the white part toward the latch it will hold it so it doesn't dangle.

Ooh, that sounds promising. The inside of the cap doesn't contact any painted surfaces does it? Gasoline isn't the best thing in the world for wax or paint, obviously. I'll try that!!

I do the drape thing too.

But you're right. My 98 Passat had so many little convenience items that no subaru's have.
