Dose this happen when you fuel up? or is it a on and off thing? I had this priblem with my wrx and i found out that the gasket inbetween the fuel pump cover and tank was leaking so had to repace that and problem fixed. I also know that subaru did a recall on there injector seals so could look into that.

Off the top of my head, you can isolate it to 1 of 2 things:

1. Fuel smell is coming in through the vent because there is a leaky fuel hose under the hood. When running the ventilation on the car, this smell would be worse than just on recirculation.

2. As mentioned, there is a rubber gasket that sits under the tank cover. This gasket can be installed inproperly. On the 07, there are tiny rubber pegs on the seal. You can pull them through some holes on the cover plate so that the seal is fully seated against the plate. If someone forgot to do this prior to putting it back in place, there is more than likely a kink in the seal and it is letting fuel vent to atmosphere.

On number 2 paragraph, maybe its tank cover or the gasket. I smell the gas while I'm driving after 10 to 15 minutes. When I open the hood I don't sell anything but when I open the trunk it surprise me, I smell gas wow! Maybe its because I just bought a powerfull subwoofer which is it vibrate everything in the trunk. Is there anymore bolt or loosing etc. Except gasket? I will check it today. And I let you know. Thanks you guys!

There was a problem with my fuel rail on my '03...raw fuel smell in the car. There was a sb because my fuel supply hose was cut too short.

Just supplying a different answer...good luck.

Also, it probably isn't the safest thing in the world so be careful.
