IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2007 | STi has so much more reliability. EVO feels and looks cheap compared to the STi. and the community of owners/drivers is different as well. |

reliabilty, hell yeah. not all owners/drivers are created equal i must say, ive met many the douchebag from both sides....and at the same time i have met some very down-to-earth evo drivers and wrx drivers. some sti owners are VERY ****y (but as i said that goes for both so its not always everybody)but what has puzzled me the most, why does everyone (for the most part) consider themselves an expert (at nothing) on nasioc AND tristatetuners (mostly subaru forum full of some real douches who love each other ever so gently )?

Yeah both sides have their idiots. Reliability? psssh My Evo was beat for a year and half with 40k and it was fine. My friend still is on his stock clutch at 135k or something, car is still problem free. Problem is the driver. The STI is more forgiving with its stronger clutch.

not to mention, i know another guy who now drives an E46 M3, that once drove a mid 400hp evo 8 that went through what had to be 3 or four clutches (i have no clue why..............) the thing that grabs people's interest in the evo is the power they can make. AND most of those records go to the amount of power that the extreme versions can produce (the list of shop cars goes on and on). but then again, anyone willing to spend the time, money and research can do the same with the opposite. if u ask me i respect people who build FAST time-attack cars, over the this-is-getting-old-now 9-sec "street car". lol. go fast in the straights, turn hard in the corners. to win, you cant do one without the other. time is your only enemy .Last edited by PSM_85; 02-11-2009 at 06:20 PM..

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2008 | As many of us have, I was at the point of choosing between the STi and the Evo. First car I drove was a 2007 bone stock OSB STi with 12k miles on it. Amazing car. I loved every single thing about driving it. The bad? It was somewhat out of my range at $28,000. I found an auto broker, who had all kinds of high end cars. STis, Evos, S4's, M3s, M5s, S2000's, Range Rovers, Bentleys. I go to his shop, and about had a heart attack after seeing his indoor garages. I narrowed it down between two cars: a 2003 Red Evo IX with 26k on it, listed at $21,000 and a 2004 WRB STi with 32k on it for $23,000. I drove both, and I simply felt that the Evo felt like a poor man's STi. After driving one after another, to me, the Evo wasn't anywhere near the same class as the STi in comfort, fun, driveability, smoothness. I also drove an black Evo IX SE that was a total piece of ****, where the Mitsu dealer didn't even know what was wrong with their car that had serious alignment and braking issues. Anyways, I just felt that the Evo was a $20,000 car being sold for $35k plus brand new. I landed the STi for $18,000. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2008 | after driving a buddy's sti (which had equal header, full exhaust and no tune yet at the time) i felt like wow, this thing makes massive torque. before that i drove my other buddy's evo 9 and that thing was a lag ship bone stock, even with bolt-ons it had a bit of lag but not a whole lot of torque either. the only real thing that separateed the two was that the evo had a very aggressive tune flashed into it afterwards, and was a mid-12 sec missile all day. the sti was never fully pro-tuned. had it been pro-tuned, the same performance, guaranteed. the thing is just a workhorse. |
