Both cars are undeniably high performers. I doubt most people are that serious or awesome at driving where this would play a big role in day to day driving. However, what does play a role is the nature of the 5 speed vs the 6 speed tranny since you are always shifting either way. Something that makes the 5 speed more DIFFICULT to live with on a daily basis is the lack of a higher overdrive gear for highway cruising. Buzzing along at over 3500 rpms in the Evo wears on your ears and nerves fast...something the STI with its 6th gear and much more reasonable crusiing rpm won't do. I cruise around 68 mph and get something like 2750 rpms (roughly).

The previous generation STI (04-07) is much safer than the previous gen Evo VIII and IX. The crash test ratings prove it, and everyone can agree that surviving a crash and being alive is definately a GOOD thing.
Now I don't know how the new generation Evo X is in terms of safety. Suppopsedly the "RISE" structure is better than before, but we do know that the current hatchback STI hasn't lost any safety compared to previous model and has even gained stability control and curtain airbags.

Torque feels good. The STI is more of a torque monster than the Evo. But the EVO does feel ...more explosive. You don't need all of that seat...just the edge, when driving the evo.

Ultimately being alive is pretty darn cool, so I went with the STI because it is safer. Safer and more confidence inspiring. It can be argued that being a safer driver is more important, which it is, but you never know when someone who isn't a good driver may hit you.

Better build quality, stronger transmission, 6sp, deep rumble, torque, Subaru as a whole seems to be a more solid company. I liked the look of the 07 STI but now I like the look of the Evo 10.

Love this video,
YouTube - 430 horsepower, 0-60 mph 3.8 secs Subaru Impreza WRX STI T25

Statement well fought my friend, what makes an evo is that there mivec motors can handle all of that boost which results in high horsepower numbers So in a well tuned evo it will make more horsepower because of how much boost that motor can withstand but you are right evos in the end will never produce the same toqure numbers mod to mod. But then again thats why we love our subaru there toqure monsters. I like there statement though +1

i like the way the boxer rumble... hahah with a TBE on the sti, it sound likes a mean VIPER... TBE on a evo sound like a Z06... z06 sounds like a fast girl car and viper sounds like a Real man car... I also like the looks of the subie better... plus the 6 speed.... and ITS A SUBIE for god sake

If I ever got an evo I would have to have the MR so that means
1)The Evo is to much
2)The tranny on the evo I don't care for to much being fwd based
3)Interiors on evo's feel so cheap atleast on the 06's I looked at.
4)Evo in early years was even more stripped down then 06 sti

Back when I looked at the evo it didn't have cruise control and the sales guy at the Mitsubishi dealership treated me like crap so it was an easy choice for me.
