IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2008 | Boxer sound. STi seems less refined, more raw, which appeals to me more. Straight up answer? I was at both dealerships the same day, had my eye on a silver Evo IX MR. Asked for a test drive. The salesman said the car had zero miles, and that people who bought them didn't want any miles at all on them, and wouldn't let me test drive. Stopped by the Subie dealership, asked to test drive an OBP 07 STi...they handed me the keys, and I bought it that same day. |

| STI Driver Feedback Score: 0 reviews | The only thing I would give the Evo is that it has a little bit more legroom overall in the front... Im 6'3" and have to kind fold myself into the door but, once I'm in there, its all suby. I also like the way they dont sound like they are falling apart near redline in stock trim like evo's did when I rode in them. |

| Junior STI Driver Feedback Score: 1 reviews | As has been said before they're both great cars. They're very similar and pretty evenly matched. It comes down to personal preference at that point as they're both capable. Looks are opinions and nothing else, I've got tons of respect for both cars. I've driven an EVO IX and it was a great car, however the STi was my choice in the end. It felt like the car I wanted and had the looks I wanted as well. Looks, sound, community and other reasons made me choose my car, and that's all opinion based. That being said I love how stiff EVO's feel stock and I will always love the front end of IIX's and IX's. I'd choose an 05 or 06 STi over a IIX or IX, however I'd choose a 9 over an 08 STi and any pre-'07 STi over an X. It's all opinion and asking a group where the majority is so biased isn't the way to get the answer you want. Go drive all options and make your decision without biased advice. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2008 | I set out to buy an EVO and ended up with an STI. Now for the reasons why this happened. * Dealer would not let me test drive the car, they are obviously fragile * Finally found someone that let me test drive there car and the clutch was slipping already and it only had 20k miles on it * The EVO was fast but felt cheap as tiwan and the gear box just didn't feel right Then I finally decided to test drive an STI (at the dealership and from a private seller). The car from the dealership was awesome, I immediatly wanted one over an EVO because the car feels way more solid IMO. Also the shifting and acceleration just feels much better. But the real sell came when I test drove a Stage 2 that someone had for sale, the car about broke my neck every time I launched and got to 100mph really fast (total EVO killer), so I gave him a check and drove away. Plus the STI 2.5l has a lot more tuning potential and the drive train is way more bullet proof then the EVO and I wanted to be able to upgrade and customize. Can't go wrong with a bigger trans and engine And for the record I have killed every single EVO MR that has tried to race me, which is 2 so far Granted I am Stage 2 but thats a cheap upgrade compared to what you would need to do to the EVO to get 350 reliable HP.Sorry if I offended any EVO owners. Feel free to multi-quote me and tear it up. I really don't mind Edit: Don't get me wrong, the EVO is a sexy beast and has the better stock interrior (on the MR). The STI is just amazing all around IMO and is the perfect car for me Didn't want to sound too much like a **** hole.Last edited by Barnacules; 12-17-2008 at 12:57 AM.. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2008 | Back in '01-'02, The WRX really just caught my attention, and I fell in love with the ugly bugger I got my Sonic Yellow Wagon in '03, and have been a Subaru freak ever since. The Evo just never got considered, for the sole reason that it isn't a Subaru. I've got a sickness! |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2008 | I like them both (I hate haters). I actually had a web page showing "What Would EMan Buy?" so I was looking at a lot of 300+ hp cars. Not many fit the 4-door, AWD, manual transmission profile, though. In the end, two things made me go STI: - my daughter: I need a lot of trunk space for her stuff - price: got a good deal If I had a little more money though, I would have picked up a 335ix in Munich. Mach schnell! |
