Default thinking on getting an STi.Couple Of ??

hello guys..
Im planning on getting this 05 Sti..I currently own a Supercharged Z..But i have some question regarding the car..

First of all the car is Completly Stock,Adult Driven,40k Miles. only aftermarket parts are Boost Gauge and Oil Press gauge and turbo timer..

Today I took the car for a spin...and noticed the following..

The car goes up to 10 psi when WOT (dont know if this is the stock PSI).When shifting to 2nd hard I can hear a clunk on the back.(I have driven EVO's and they make a similar sound...

Differential settings where set to Manual and the level was set to the First setting on top..(showing an Amber light on the dash)..

When turning the car to either left or right on corner.(coming from a stop light) you can hear a Loud Clunk like the car has broken mounts and it feels that the car has the brakes locked..(i noticed that this was only on corner coming from a stop applying little throttle).Could this be caused by the settings on the differential?

When going back to dealer I switched the Diff to auto and noticed that the sound had almost gone but still was there..(I dont remember but i think that the dash showed something about lock) the car felt like an 4WD Suv Using Low Range.

Is this a Diff Problem or something with the settings...

I also noticed that the car feels more slower than my Z..

I Dind't Launch the car hard or anything like that..that was my only complain about the car.

Also I noticed that the car has DRL is this removable?

Thanks and hope to get on the STi Family

if it actually has DRL its not an STi
10 psi seems low as hell
the clunk is the rear end smacking the bottom of the car, they do that
the popping and clunking when turning is because the DCCD is not in auto but if you did not turn it to manual and it started in manual when you turned the car on something is not right

hth

It is a STi..What I mean about DRL is that when you put the E brake down the Low beams come on..I dont know if this is a Canadian Model or something..( I forgot to tell that im not in Usa)the car has Kmh instead of MPH..I Dind't Look to much on the Boost Gauge but B4 hitting the Rev limiter I looked once and saw 10 Psi..

The DCCD was not in auto..the setting was foward to the L and showing a amber light on the display..after that I switched to auto and noticed that the sound decreased..

I had a Friend with me and he was playing with this when the car was warming up

What Is the Normal Psi on this cars?
So the Clunk is normal nothing to worry about..
What Are the Weak points of this cars..
Im Planning on modding this car..(DP,Header,UP,Intake)
Also How much Boost does the Stock Turbo Holds..(Mean in Efficiency)
I saw on several threads that a Blow Off isn't Recommended..Why this?

Canadian STi's do have DRL's and DON'T have HID's.
Stock STi should be hitting PEAK 13.5/14psi or close to 1 Bar

It's pretty common in STi's to have the boost taper off when redlining the gears, so it wouldn't honestly surprise me if you saw 10psi near redline.

A lot of tunes with simple bolt on mods, peak boost will be around 19-20lbs (stock turbo) depending heavily on the tuner. Unless you are running meth, that's a different story. The only weak point I see about these cars are the alignment from the factory and a few suspension pieces (sways come to my mind) and I don't mean weak as in fragile, I mean they could use some tweaking.

Any MAF based car does not like a 100% atmospheric BOV, you'll run rich in between shifts and most likely will afterfire/backfire. The reason for this is because MAF meters the air and is anticipating the air to recirculate back into the intake.

A Supercharged Z should feel faster then a stock STi

Thanks for you response..It answered some of my questions..I got here in my home a magazine that tells that the stock Sti Boost is 13.9 Psi...Is this a Problem the Boost Taper Thing???how can you fix this?

So this Loud clunk that you can feel it on your back is normal..
Yep the Car Didn't have HID from factory (owner Told Me that he put some aftermaket one)

Do you really feel any gains when switching to a Dp,Up??The car feels VERY slow compared to my car..but again this cars are for launching not roll starts..

I Barely heard the turbo spool..but i saw on a thread that you can remove the stock airbox silencer to get some nice gains..

if i get the car,and get a Boost Controller can I get to High PSI w/o compromisng reability?

This is probably a stupid question but are you sure the boost gauge was was showing imperial measurements (i.e. psi)? If it was there could be something wrong with the car. A stock STI should be hitting 13.5-15 psi depending on the boost gauge depending on the brand of the gauge and condition of the car.

If the guage is showing metric measurements the car should be hitting 1.0 bar which kind of looks like a "10" on some guage faces.

The car sounds like every other STi give your descriptions. Clunk sounds like the Manual mode froma stop/very slow start. Could be some strut clunk(which is also normal). Like everyone else asked are you sure it's in PSI? If it is, it is normal to get taper toward redline, it helps protect against running lean up top. Weak points are CV boots and also like stated before some minor tweaking goes a long way. Finally the stock STi will be slower than a supercharged Z. With exhaust and EM you'll notice a difference.

what gear were you in when you looked at the boost gauge? i don't think you'll hit peak boost in 1st or 2nd gear, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

also, i don't think you need to upgrade the UP b/c STIs don't have a cat there. not sure if would give you any gains or not.

careful with a manual boost controller. from my reading it's best to stay away from that and go with a TBE and some form of engine management.

If you were in Manual mode in Lock and you were turning a great deal, you'll hear some loud clunks from the front of the car. A lot of people use Lock for heavy snow and rain.

I have the Glow****.. I mean Shift Gauges you speak of, they're very accurate for what they are.

Even if the gauges were a bit off, 10psi is low. I 've seen the crappy autometer gauges on some STIs and they read 14.5 psi. I have the Defi gauges and they also read 14.5psi. I'm pretty sure 1 bar (14.5psi approx) is about right. You should be able to hit this max boost by 5,000 rpms assuming wide open throttle.

WHooooooppsseeeeeezzz. Yes, it was caused by differential bindage. You're not supposed to do that son!

well in my car tuned im hitting about 17 psi wot in 1st-3rd then 4-6 i hit about 20. and yeah dont leave the DCCD in lock mode going slow in dry conditions. it sounds like your axle almost broke in half. scared the shiz out of me the first time it happend to me. maybe a compression and leakdown test while getting it checked out?? not sure tho.
