How to modify stock airbox

I hear about everyone modified thier stock airbox by removing the storkus, intake silencer, ect. Can someone please explain to me exactly what you are removing, and what are you replacing, and what gains can be expected with a stg 1 remap? Please post up some pics of a stock and modified one. Thanks!

The intake silencer delete is a purely "aethetic" mod, meaning there are NO performance gains whatsoever. All it does is allow you to hear more of the "whoosh" of the intake.

And I agree with the above post. Search. And unless that BOV is 100% recirculating, you're slowing the car down and running rich between shifts.
