I dont speed in my neighborhood but I don't go out of my way to keep the car quiet.

I set my neighbors alarms off all the time at 2,3,4am pretty much every Thursday, Friday, and Satruday night. I do it on purpose, if it wakes them up that is their own problem. They wake me up with their lawn mowers and noisy kids when they are all rise and shine at 10am.

These are some of the most hillarious stories I've ever read. LMAO!!! So, is it the wing or the exhaust, the aggressive look of the car that makes these people insane? Or is it the reputation (legend) of the STi? Are the '08s with it's more "tame" look getting any of this madness? Keep the stories comin'! I almost fell out the chair at work from laughin'!!!

I don't get to hear people yelling at me to slow down as the open DP tends to drown them out

I've had a 70 year old man chase me down in a residential neighborhood while shaking his fist and screaming at me with veins bulging out of his neck. I wasn't even speeding or WOT. I was pretty scared -- scared that he might kick my car or punch a window in. Crazy.

I got a note on my windshield once threatening me about tire slashes and broken windows if I woke up this family on the end of my block one more time. I was fed up with all the BS they gave me ie. asking me where my father was right after he died in an accident with a smug smile and various other things.

So I called the homeowners association and three of my family friends were on the board. The family got fined for every single violation that was ever documented (by me hehe) and the total fine was some $2k they moved shortly after.

moral of the story: dont **** with my baby!

I'm so glad I read this thread because this has been happening to me for years. Mix these things together - heavy suburbia, seventeen years old, bright red mustang, exhaust, live near elementary school. I have long lived by the rule don't poop where you eat. Therefore, literally not one time, EVER, not even a LITTLE BIT, have I ever sped or did anything remotely dumb or offending in my neighborhood.

Didn't matter. Countless times I have been yelled at to slow down, sometimes frantic screaming more than yelling, by mom's squeezing their kids close as if somehow that is going to protect them from me. I always ignored them. I only snapped one time. I remember this day like it happened yesterday. I even remember how the air smelled.

I was driving down this road. It was a pretty crowded road with cars on both sides - it's just how this part always was. Therefore, I was going not just a little below the speed limit (25), but quite a bit. I was doing this for two reasons. First, it was an extremely nice day and was in a very, very good mood about it all, and second, I didn't want any problems with these mom's since I knew school was getting out. I come around a bend and there is a (fat) mother suddenly jerking with fear and PUSHING her two children across the street. Let me try and demonstrate this in a picture.

They were literally so far away I didn't know if it was because of me or not. Logic and reason would assume that it could not possibly be me and that it was more likely that somebody was pointing a gun at them or something, but I long ago abandoned logic and reason with these people. I got a bad feeling about it once they waddled across the road and STOPPED AND STARED. But you have to remember how far they were, so they were staring for a long time. I slowed down just a little bit more to try and make it seem a little bit more ridiculous to them. As I got closer I continued to slow down since they were still staring. By the time I got around to passing them I was doing no more than 5 mph, although I still don't even know since 10 mph is the slowest the car could read.

I was about to just keep going without incident before I heard a scream to my right as if it were right in my ear "SLOOOOWW DOWNNN ARGHGHHH" The last part of it didn't sound like words but just screaming and noises. This caught me so amazingly off guard and because of the tense situation I instantly slammed on the brakes. I would have skidded for quite a while but because I was already going FIVE GOD DAMN MILES AN HOUR it was a baby *chirp!*. This seemed to scare the mother however and she started WADDLING up the street in fear. She was actually making noises as she ran and was getting red in the face, even though she had been running all of 3 seconds. I paced her in my car and asked her very clearly "DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ME GOING 10 MILES AN HOUR?". She made more scared noises like I was about to rape her and feed her to a bear or something. This is kind of a you had to be there sort of thing but I still remember this ridiculousness to this day in every detail and still can't believe any of it.

I eventually just sped up to a blistering 25 mph and went home about 3 houses down.

If I had my STi in highschool I would have been burned at the stake.

This thread delivers!

I have a story of my own to share. Growing up, a friend and I would sometimes go driving on weekends. We were in high school at the time. He had a neighbor that lived just a few blocks away, and every time we would drive by this neighbor's house he would run out of his living room into the front yard shaking his fists at us. No matter what he was doing, he would drop everything and tell people to slow down. He could scream "SLOW DOWN!" louder than anyone I have ever encountered. We were never driving over 20mph, however.

Things got worse over time. It really became a bad situation when we started driving by his house together in 1st gear on our way back from driving out in the country. This really tugged at his emotions, and we thought it was hilarious. I remember one day when he happened to have a cake in one hand and jumped out in front of my friend's car, as if he was "presenting a cake." We just laughed.

Eventually we got bored with the whole thing and decided to end it, once and for all. So we hacked up a "SLOW" yellow street sign from an area near his house. This thing was huge, and at 2am one saturday morning we dug a hole in his front yard, stuck the sign in, and poured quick-crete around it. Driving by the next day was awesome. He was trying so hard to dig the sign out.

Hahaha pretty good story, love the pic. Let those mom's have it, they drive faster than anyone around in neighborhoods. My next store neighbor tries to beat my mom home from picking my sister up at school. My mom noticed one time and was like wtf, the neighbor speeds through the neighborhood at like 40.

Hahahaha thats so awesome happened to a high school's by us football field. Somebody concreted a christmas tree in the middle of the field. It didn't dry in time tho someone was able to get it out.

Since I'm 18, I always get stared down by kids my own age driving beaters.

lol great thread. some people man. tho i love that our cars can be intimidating. (could def be the wing that contributes a lot to it). i dont have the problem around up here in rhode island as most people actually admire my car and whatnot. but back home in jersey, forget about it. if im not starred down, then there's always someone always looking to race from a light. i just putter away than if necessary, go for the surprise attack when they never actually see it coming-lol.

haha all believable stories.

To their credit though, we could come off as simply "sedans with loud mufflers and big wings", and honestly if you didnt know anything about cars and heard something like that coming, wouldnt you want to pull your kids off the street before some 17 year old in his 98 civic comes flying through?
