^Opinion.

There are a number of 07 owners who have no troubles at all with their cars. I've never heard of an 06 owner complaining about a bad tune from the factory, either, so please cite the source of this information. I'll need to append some things if it is true.

If you plan on modding, go 07
If not go 06

As for color, are you really going to choose the color of your car by what people opinions are? Get what color you like... just remember if you go black you will have trouble keeping it clean

I think there are a number of people on here that can dispute the 06-07' urban legend. My car is solid and I've run OTS COBB (gas waster map) Stage II for 20,000 miles as a DD without a hiccup.
The only problems this car has are caused by the owner tinkering.

My 07 is completely stock with 22k on it. I've kept up on the usual maintenance and I have had only 1 or 2 minor issues. I've taken fewer trips to the dealer than most people I know.

I'm glad people are chiming in. There were a few problem cars early in the model year, but I think the majority of them are solid. The tune is a tad lean from the factory.

I heard this from the tuner who knows a ton of information on Sti's and is in the process of building a 1000whp STi. (I know this is extremely broad information, but he knows the facts.

There are a LOT of people here who know a ton about the STi. That's not the credential we need. Before you can take an entire model year run and call it "bad," you'd better have more than one tuner say that every 07 is bad, or a lot more cars should be blowing up.

Basically, I'm not willing to discourage people from buying 07s, and I'm not willing to further sully the car's reputation without more evidence to the car's supposed propensity for failure.

Cite the source, for what it's worth.

I have a stock 07 STI...SWP ftw! Shame on whoever said its the worst color ever...to each their own though. Anyways, coming from a stage 2 wrx w/ UP I didnt expect the power of the 07 STI to be much better, but it really is. It pulls MUCH harder than my stg 2 WRX. My only real complaint about the car is it "bucks" occasionally at low speeds when I'm trying to maintain the same speed e.g in a parking lot. 18k miles on it no problems, will start modding it after I get a compression and leakdown test on it, and have money to purchase a race motor if the stock one blows (and isn't warrantied)
Also, keep in mind if you purchase an 07, you have that much more warranty on it if something does happen!

And the stock tune, either my car isn't that bad or people blow it outa proportion, but i think its fine, I have some pretty decent tq from 2500rpm and up!

meh I have 13k on my 07 and the only time hesitation occurs is while the car is warming or when cruising the freeway in 1st/low 2nd. like ive said before ill let Subaru replace the engine and then ill start fresh with a cosworth and ill have a spare long block
I vote for the 07 but im biased.

a little off topic but has anyone found a pattern in the vin numbers or build date of the 07's that blew?

Jack knobs on here are going to say get a 04-05 Because they have one, I will say get a 06 becuase I have one, or 07 owners will say get that year! So it's all about opinion, I really doubt the 04-05 is better than a 06-07. Tunes can be done on any car nowadays, so that being said 04-05 can have a "whack tune" and so can all the other models, you have to get the RIGHT map for YOUR car!

So find the body style you like, the miles that suit you, and become a shark and get the one you like, and then find a Forum like this and flame on all the other models like everyone on here!

Check out this thread For a discussion of the 2007 tune and blowing up. Also do a general search for 2007 in engine power and performance and learn about the 2007 issues. 07 blew up 15500 miles
Now this does not mean all 2007s are bad or have issues, just that some people have had issues.

Were I looking for an STI right now, my concern would be less the tune as I would change that regardless of year (to at least stage 2) and more about how abused the car was and how modified it is. Since this is a turbo car that attracts gear heads, I would want my purchase to be contingent on a thorough mechanical evaluation including compression and leak down tests by a knowledgeable mechanic. I would not want to buy someone's track slut and have the thing explode within a few months of purchase. Abuse is much more strongly correlated to failures then what year the car was made.
