A lot of people in Ca don't seem to understand this. If you roll around with a canister muffler, you are WAY more likely to get hassled by the cops. Like 80000% more likely. They are very attracted to them...

Out of 3 years of driving 2 different STi's, I have only gotten one ticket and it was totally my fault (Speeding). The cops don't care about me. I feel totally fine driving in front of them.

Just the other day I was driving on the 405 and a CHP flicked his lights on behind me while he was in the opposing lane. He flew by me and proceeded to pull the Camry over that was in front of me.

You know, a lot of our problems are our own fault, collectively speaking. The Japanese import scene has an undeniable negative stigma associated with it. We have a lot of young, dumb kids with more balls than brains. This leads to the harassment of everyone who 'looks the part'. I have read several threads on this forum alone that have touched on flipping cops off because they got pulled over a few miles back, the constant 'advice' threads started by people who knowingly broke the law and go off on a tirade looking for ways out and calling cops names, etc. This is the company we keep and will be associated with.

You don't see guys in BMWs, hell even Harley riders with their 150db pipes, receiving the same level of harassment because they are generally a more mature crowd who choose to avoid doing the (stupid) things the import scene seems to love to do.

I guess the only thing to do in the end is to separate yourself from the 'look' that Jimmy JDM has created for himself with his parents credit card.

I guess it just boils down to melon shooters FTL.

thats a cop out. No pun intended. But back not to many years ago, Japper cars automatically get harassed while american muscle goes free.........

cops have been harassing import and import drivers for a long time, long before any stigma could be attached to it from our own behaviors.

Regardless of what someone has done in the past, that doesn't make it right when a cop illegally or unfairly harasses an import owner, and frankly hearing someone make that argument for the cops is pretty disgusting.

I use to have a v8 so I know this to be true.

I don't see how important drivers could have a worse stigma than v8's, which have been street racing for 60 years. What kinduv a loser makes up a reason for the cops treating people unfairly, come on get it together

I'm sorry, but LEO's across the nation didn't just wake up one day and decided "hey, lets go make import drivers lives hell". It does not work like that, there was a reason for this attitude towards import drivers. If you're from CA you can even see this in the sportbike community. Sportbike riders share the same roads with Harley riders, why don't the cops give the Harley riders hell? Easy, it's because the Harley riders aren't tearing up heavily trafficed roads at double the limit, passing over double yellows or wadding their bikes every weekend. What's the solution? Well, you can't ban sportbikes, but you can pull them over for modified exhausts, illegal undertails, etc. Harass them enough so they won't frequent those roads, or start obeying the law.

cops have been harassing import and import drivers for a long time, long before any stigma could be attached to it from our own behaviors.

See above.

It doesn't make it right, but you ARE judged by the company you keep. As unfair as it may be, it is a fact of life in any social circle.

I know many old school American Muscle fanatics around in 'the day' and the general consensus was that roads were less crowded, risks taken were smaller, there were no real laws about emissions, exhausts, etc. and if they got caught they took their lumps like men, not like little girls crying about how 'the man' is keeping them down after they get caught going 130+ on a public highway with other drivers present.

.....

Here in PR the cop cant open your hood unless you comply or they get a written order by a judge with your name on it a reason for the inspection. You can have a loud exhaust if you have the DB reading by a licensed engineer. So i have loud exhaust and engine mods and the cops cant do crap about it I love my island lol.

I'm from NH, and I've heard from a friend in SoCal about the" lady chatter" the local constabulary give to anyone who's even had a wet dream of aft market accessores or street racing . And then the referee "bunk" all to tame the streets. Consider moving here where smog control leaves mechanics scratching their heads and exhaust systems are plumbed with test pipes and electric cutouts that will dump below the drivers' door. Where speeds only hinderances are physics and the depth of your pockets. I'm only 50 min from Boston ... own a tattoo shop with my wife. search myspace under name... Revelation Studios

What city was this in? I'm assuming you're talking about the OC Sheriffs right? They generally have nothing better to do. I was hassled for a modified exhaust and I have a Prodrive Ovaltip which is just as quiet as the stock muffler. Apparently they can cite you for just having any exhaust part modified and they no longer need a decibel meter to cite you either. My sister works for Garden Grove PD and apparently that's how they're rolling now. I talked to an officer that pulled me over for no front tag (was only issued one) and he said if you don't drive like a jackass (rev everywhere) you'll generally be OK.

I do agree the import scene has a reputation for a reason. Most japanese cars have always been cheaper in previous years making them much easier to obtain for teenagers who already have the need for speed. Just like every other enthusiast they have had the modding bug itching at them. So we get teenagers hopped up on hormones and what not behind the wheel of the japanese cars modded to sound loud as hell, just like the muscle cars in the 60's. Which i believe had the same reputation in there time(dont quote me on that.) Our sti, although more expensive then the average honda, is usually categorized as the same thing with the big scoop, wing and melon shooter. So i get why we get harassed it just blows.

I saw talk about OC cops and the cops here outside of Sac. It seems to me that the safer and more crime free the town is the more they harp on things like this. I guess thats the sacrifice of living in a nice area.

End useless rant.

I actually got pulled over in Azusa, at the base of Glendora Mountain Ridge. And no, I wasn't speeding. I live in OC and rarely had any trouble with the local cops due to me being familiar with their hauntings
