yea when we lifted my car up i was like "why is one the opposite way"

Easy of assembly? During OEM assembly.

Actually where the first cat bolts to the second cat on the downpipe there is a shield on the stock STi on the underside. SO if there is no shield then the downpipe must have been out at some point. Pertaining to the bolts, they are both the same size on a stock STi. But they are just bolts. The connection that is there has threads pointing opposite directions.
