A lot of people are knee deep in debt and, coupled with gas prices, need to get rid of their cars - and the market isn't in the sellers favor at the moment. I'm not a low baller, but I wouldn't have offered so much. He was probably looking at $25k as the magic number.

problem was that the ad orginally said 28,998....after i offered the price it went down to 26,998. and i questioned him about it and he said thats the internet price.

So...im going to just tell him that..and offer 25K.

sounds like the usual dealer marked up price... since its a dealer car, I suggest you take the Vin number of the vehicle and have it run by a subaru dealership... if where your buying it from is a not a subaru dealership.. this will tell you all, if any work done under warranty.. carfax to me is a joke so don't rely strctly on it. I would not offer more than or 26k out the door so you did ok to offer that.. if you don't know anything about bodywork repair, I suggest you take someone that knows about body repair to give the car a second look for you. take your time looking for one preferrebly from a private seller as your more likely to get a better deal that way.

The worst that can happen is they'll say no. Kick'em in the nuts and see what happens.

It is a subaru dealership, the car is certified. they changed the price last night..and it was updated today..i have a car on autotrader and i understand that. It takes 24 hours usually.

They came back with an offer of $26,400. Thats basically where there and i tried to get them to 26..but he said again its already discounted.

Don't try to be a ass about it! Their is only so much they will take off. The old sedan body style is the one to have right now. If you try to nickel and dime them to death. Some one else will take that deal.

This is possible, but there are always other cars. Keep hammering. Ask if that's an out-the-door price (taxes included). Keep working them.

Then, inspect it carefully yourself. Make sure it's not been modded, etc. Buy it. Profit.

I'm hoping my 06 maintains value as it only has 5k on it and is rarely driven, has all the goodies including fp green, race gas map, coilovers, ewg, all done right by the most legit people. Better than a shops tuner car IMO....plus its like new.

theres a couple of things you need to ask yourself. First... what color do you want the most?? Once that is out of the way, like Boondock said, try to get one in stock form unless you know the person your buying it from well and you know it has not been tampered with in the wrong ways. Low mileage 06s are a bit tricky to find as some 06 are coming up on 3 years especially if they were purchased in late 05 or early 06. You can even find an 07 for the same or similar price of an 06 and with less miles but some people here will tell you to avoid an 07 although the this is a whole another issue and a subject of opinion.

Just take your time... patience is hard I know when you want the car so bad
