ive built a couple engines.. when i solder wires, which those soldering look great, i heatshrink it then wrap it in electrical tape, not 1 or none, I ALWAYS PUT BOTH, as stated the soldering looks good but everything else is just a nightmare.. no matter what you buy, it shouldnt spin a bearing, especially one that is supposed to be TOP notch built and a couple hours of buying. is it a heavily modified car? yeah but if somebody gives you their word who is supposedly a nice guy, then it breaks down, he doesnt help you as much as he probably should then im sorry, thats just a cheesed*ck move. no other way to put it.
yeah you bought the car as-is but you didnt buy it as a electrical/broken nightmare.

i feel so bad that id help you out fixing it, and i dont even live near you.

Do you have any receipts showing that Topspeed did anything but a tune? Lots of sellers will tell you what you want to hear to sell the product, especially if they know its about to die. I wouldn't drag Topspeed down by claiming they did things that they in fact did not.

Just out of curiosity, why did you want to buy a car that was heavily modified?

well.... I guess I am never getting anything done from Topspeed. That's complete bulls**t that they cant even call you back or help you in any way. But they have the time to be on the forums see the post and post a reply. BUT they cant help you??? What kind of business is that. Topspeed made the mistake, fix it. IT was not mxturbo fault for buying a car a blows up 4 hours later.

And that wiring looks pretty hacked up to me, isnt Topspeed a big company with a big shop?? I would think they would have done a Hydra install more than once. It looks like a 12 year old did the wiring. How can you screw up so many times, look at the one pic, it was cut twice. So meaning the screwed up once. Noobs at reading an instruction manual or wat?????

I am pissed with you mxturbo. I fell your pain. All I have to say Topspeed wont be gettin my busniess nor any of my buddys thats for sure. Cant believe Topspeed wont even answer your calls nor help you with the work they have done. Thats rediculous.

Its the same thing as if i brought something from topspeed and they arnt goin to help me work things out and fix the problem. Instead its mY fault cause I brought a "RACE CAR" part, and all "RACE CAR" parts fail at some point??? in MXTURBO case.... him driving on the highway????

wow.... lame, TopSpeed........ ahahahha.

I wish all the best to you MXTurbo.

As for the oil being over full, well that was after I got the car off the hwy to a parking lot and looking at everything to find the oil not even on the dipstick after sitting for a little while,
No oil on the dipstick is the fastest way to destroy a Subie motor...

dang guys . I see you folks had an entertaining day with our (me/matt/topspeed) controversy....

I didnt have any time to respond to anyones questions/comments before the thread, so here goes. I have spent many years in the subaru community, and it is important to me to maintain an upstanding image....even though I no longer own a Subaru. I'm enjoying teh $hit out of my 08 Z06

First, for your veiwing pleasure, here is the orginal bill of sale:

Matt and I have worked things out.

basically, here's the cliff notes to the situation...

I sold the car as is, it was in "great/excellent" condition. the buyer had the opportunity to refuse the sale upon his inspection. I was ready to stand behind this car, as it had a need for nothing, except an amp to power some speakers, and the defi boost gauge wasnt working. I didnt use the defi gauge anyway, the avcr was my bc/gauge.

As far as the octane issues goes, the car was tuned on 93, however I ALWAYS ran 2-3 gallons of C-16 for insurance.

the car broke down after 4-5 hrs after the sale, I was totally shocked. I have no idea what really happened, the car was fine when Matt departed. Matt was extremely happy with purchasing my STi, almost like a 10yr old on christmas morning. Upon the mishap, I immediately sent a flatbed truck to pick up Matt and the STi, scheduled to have the STi dropped off at TopSpeed, and Matt delivered to the airport. I bought him a plane ticket to get him home. I agreed we would figure out what went wrong and we would go from there.

After 2 weeks, TopSpeed discovered the car had a spun bearing. Axis and TopSpeed believed the car did not have any existing problem considering it only had 3500 miles, and had been to the track a few times on either low boost (24psi) or pump gas. I told Matt I would split the bill with him, and he was delighted. Do you know anyone else that would offer to do that? Matt decided that instead of splitting the bill, he would rather I paid for transport, which he completely setup the whole transaction. I immediately called the transport company and gave them my Am Ex, they said they would pick the car up and deliver it in a week.

Somewhere during the delivery, the transport company decided to farm the service out to another company that did not accept Am Ex. We had no idea, and the car showed up to Matt's surprise with an $800 bill. I was not readily available to speak with matt when this happened.

I spend most of my days in surgery, and have recently started a new job with intense training and requirements. Matt left me a few messages, but I was not able to return them as promptly as I should have. He then decided to call my new employer and vent his frustrations. I felt this was a deliberate attempt to jeopardize my career, which would potentially injur my family (wife/baby/ 1 income).

at this point, I decided I was not going to offer him any assistance, because I felt he was out of line. Matt acknowleged he was wrong, he offered to apologize to my coworkers, and I actually forgave him. I still wanted to do the right thing.

at this point, my previous employer was upset that I had moved on to a new job and decided to withhold my final commission check (monthly $18,500) for 90 days. My new employer pays on a qtrly basis, which left me tight on funds for a few months. I told matt that I would pay him the $800 as soon as I got paid. I needed all cash flow to get by, considering I have many financial resonsibilities. I told him I would help him as soon as I received a payment from either of my employers.

I logged onto Nasioc and discovered there are 2 threads bashing me and TopSpeed. As you can imagine, I felt he stepped out of line once again. I wasnt feeling like a nice guy, and decided he was on his own.

I have agreed to pay Matt the $800, simply because I am ready to put this chapter of my life behind me. Do I owe him the $? No. Would it be a nice/good thing to do for him? Yes. I am simply paying the $800 because I want to move on.

/end of discussion.

First, Koby Subaru is a great dealer, and had relatively little to do with my car, aside from a tranny install, rear diff install, and normal maintanence items. Please leave Koby Subaru out of this.

As far as TopSpeed goes, I stand behind their work and will always remain one of their customers. Could the work have been a little cleaner, sure. HOWEVER, what most of you guys dont understand, is that when you have a race car running at it's peak performance, you dont sweat the little things. At this level, when something is not broken, dont go chasing your tails trying to make everything perfect.

Doug is possibly one of the most talented tuners you could ever deal with. As a customer, you should bow down in his presence, haha, because he is the f'ing man. TopSpeed has struggled with issues that all small business's struggle with, and unfortunately they are not able to make every customer happy. I have had dealings with topspeed since they opened their doors many years ago, and have watched them grow into a tuning powerhouse. I'm tired of Nasioc picking them apart. You guys can say what you want about them, but I have been one of their largest customers for several years, and have nothing but great things to say about them. You would be foolish to avoid doing business with them. They have come a long way and they are on top of their game. They do take a long time, hard to get a hold of at times, but the final result is worth a little crap.

Matt and I have worked things out between us. I am not happy with what he has done (calling my employer, and posting hate threads), and I can imagine he is not happy with the situation with the STi. $hit happens, it has happened to me many times, which is why I ended up sinking 100k+ into my STi over the course of 4 yrs.

ok guys, fire away....

Little recap also (stemming from that crazy NASIOC thread)

I've talked to Austin several times via pm. I don't know him, but consider him a standup guy and a friend. he drove this car HARD, as it should be.

this car has seen the stock block at 500+whp and it didn't blow up, right Austin?
it was traded for a cobb block. that block had a rod failure.
the car has seen several clutches. you finally settled on what? an ACT 6 puck?
then an axis stg5 engine. (currently)
the transmission was upgraded to an Andrewtech dogbox (due to the 1st input shaft breaking, right?)
after it was all tuned, done, driving and at the strip, the car lost another inputshaft in the trans.

Austin drove this car, invested in this car, and loved this car.

One can see where the 100k price came from.

I wish I had his new car

^thanks man! it's a shame about everything that has happened. I was a passionate subaru enthusiast for many years, and will own another subaru in the future. it wont be a highly moddified sti.

actually Doug tuned the stock block to 592whp, never blew up. I made 100's of pass's on the stocker, best motor ev4r!!!!

I basically tried every kind of setup on that car, and felt it was at its best when i sold it. hopefully the new owner will continue to push the car to its limits, wish him nothing but the best.

It would be a real shame to let top speed touch that Z06. That is assuming everything I read is true and they did that craptastic wire job. I know you said you are sticking by them blah blah blah but don't you have any dedicated Corvette shops where you live?
