Buying '93 "STi"?

Hey, so I'm pretty new to the STi, and was looking to buy one. The thing is I don't know which make and year to get. I'm currently looking at a 1993-1999/04 STi, but I'm not to sure if the '93-'99 imprezas are just wrx or sti and how would I tell if they are just basic version, wrx, or sti. Also I was wondering the main differences between the japanese STi's and the NA STi's. Clarification on this would be great. Thanks

To my knoledge there isnt any us spec sti before 2003. And I'm pretty sure there isn't any NA sti's. Thats kind of an oxy moron. LOL. I think "OP" (original poster) is confused with maybe 2.5RS owners modding their cars with STI foglight covers like JDM STI's not that thats wrong but they're not STI's.

I think at the most we got the WRX in the U.S. pre 2002 as I've seen one myself but most pre '02 imprezas are 2.5RS's and 2002-03 we had bugeye WRX's non-STI, and then 2004-present WRX's and STI's. Again topics mostly discussed in newb facts, and in the end all depends on what type of car your looking for (mild-to-WILD).

I think by NA he meant North American, not Naturally-Aspirated.
