View Poll Results: IF Subaru gave us enthusiasts a choice for the next STI(2010) which would you choose?
Same 305hp as the 09 but....the Handling upgrades are perfect and "nothing" under $110,000 - gets even close to its agility. 39 48.15%
Subaru gave this version 365 hp ...but the handling is the same as the previous years. 42 51.85%

yeah thats how i see it... but i think you have too look at it in terms of what would you rather have as a stock setup... as in if you bought the car and you wernt going to mod it for a little while, would you prefer more power with same handling or tremendous handling with same power...

I honestly think the next gen STI is gonna need to up its game in both power and handling. Especially if it keeps gaining weight. When the STi first came out, nothing could touch it for the price (except the EVO obv.) in any performance category. Now with the price increase, you are looking at damn near BMW money. If people have to choose between a used e46 M3 with low miles or a new STI, Subaru is going to loose a lot of sales. So I think they should either lower the price or raise the performance envelope.

I'd vote #2.

It might be more likely to see a battery-powered or Hydrogen STi in 2010 though

I agree. Also, imo, there's too much focus on mass appeal which makes the car bloated in weight and price.

This I agree with as well. As a company selling a product you need to isolate a particular need in the market and fill it. The 04 STI really zeroed in on what the car's selling points were. High performance in an affordable package with AWD. It cost tens of thousands less then its competitors (again ignoring the EVO) even when looking at the used market. It kept the price down by not having all that annoying luxury crap or sound deadening. It was a raw performance car that happened to have 4 doors. But instead of keeping this focus, Subaru decided to focus on on the yuppy market (or whatever that stupid acronym is that Subaru says describes its target audience). So what we get is a bloated luxury sports car with a larger price tag and performance that lags even the outgoing models (stock anyway). Now its lost its price advantage on its European rivals, lost its performance edge on all its rivals, and is trying to compete on amenities with the likes of BMW, its no surprise that it fails.

As a man who had his 04 stolen and is now in the market for a new car with the same needs he had when he bought the 04 (but with a better paycheck), why does Subaru think I will buy this ugly, slow turd when for a few grand more, I can get a 335xi coupe, a car that Automobile magazine says is better and FASTER then either the new STI or EVO (STI placed third by the way, so its not even close)? The answer is I'm not. In a couple of weeks, when I get the insurance check, I am shopping BMW. I loved my old STI and had the new one been just as fast and at the same price, or faster and more expensive, I would have bought it.
