I thought this might work out better than the mailing list for most people and we could actually get some discussion going on.

I know this is not vBulletin, but it will work for now I think, and phpBB has a new version coming out that will have all the same features and possibly more as vBulletin does. We will constantly be trying to improve the look and feel of the board and the entire site.

So, please register and let's start posting rumors.

JJ

Wow, I'm the first one, besides the Master!
Just curious...
What car(s) do you drive?
You ARE getting an STI (if it comes over)?
What do you know about the chances of it coming West?
I drive a '01 RS, I love it. The WRX is sweet but I'm still dissapointed with the exterior design (only sedan & wagon, Dodge Neon-lookin' headlights, ugly rear-end etc. etc.), but it's growing on my a bit. And I just heard about the STI, damb it's sweet.

Oh, and quite a nice site, by the way.

Good to see you got the forums up, JJ. Hopefully people will start coming forward with the rumors!

For the benefit of non-JJ readers...

I have it on good authority that the Pacific regional manager has stated the STi is "likely next year as a 2003 model."

Yes, it's coming. And soon (12 months or less).

I guarantee that it is coming- and from my standpoint it looks sooner than later.

If by next summer we don't hear anything I would be very surprised. SOA said a couple of years in March if the WRX was successful.

They orginally were going to produce 10,000 WRX's for North America. This jumped to 12,000 and now 15,000 because of demand just for the first year.

I would not be surprised if they rush the STi over here, sooner than thought...

Great site! A top interest of mine, I will check in daily. Now we need to get the word out.

Q: Suggested price is $33k with Jap. spec? How does this work since the car sells in Europe for about $45k (According to EVO it retails in Englans for 30,000 GBP)?

33k is what my salesperson told me.

It is hard to compare the prices of the different markets it is sold in- there are too many factors to consider.

I do think, however that even below 30K (even if it's 29,999) is possible.

I gotta say that I'll certainly be willing to pay a little over $30K for the STI, especially if two things happen.

1. The interior is nicer
2. It doesn't come until 2003 (2004 model year), so I can save up

p.s. I'm on board now. I'll check in every now and again, I'm sure even more often as things get closer.

Im losing sleep just waiting for the STi. I really have to start saving up though haha. I hope that the dealers dont mark up the price because of demand. I know of many dealers that marked up the wrx nearly 4 grand just because people would pay it. As for the looks of the STi: I think it looks great. The interior looks nice and with a couple exterior mods it will be so nice. I will have to get the black dual lamp cluster that the wrc car has, and maybe that hood with the extra vent.

I am with you guys who need to save up, but the STi can't get here soon enough!
I never go for the first iteration anyway because the 'bugs' have to be ironed out on North American roads, plus I am still hoping that the rear end will be made over.
I am aiming for summer 2003 to make one my own, perhaps I can grind my teeth until Spring '04 if something really interesting is in the rumor mill.
Sounds like a very long time, but my current car still isn't paid for so I am also looking forward to living without that note for at least one full year.
So to all of my fellow patient souls, here's to a year or more of learning all that we can about the most exciting four wheels on the planet, without actually driving one for ourselves!

Ok so I was bored tonight and decided to go back in time and see how far back this went. Geez I didn't realise this board dated as far back as 2 years! Great work on keeping it alive long enough to actually see the STi arrive in North America guys. Hats off JJ.

No kidding! This board is older than my current car. . . the one I'm trading in on the STi.

Wow! Pretty cool. The site actually started very early August of 2001. We had a message list first, and then I installed the board.

Hard to believe it's been over two years. Good things come to those who wait.
