Default Can I use my stock tires in the snow? NO!

No. It's as simple as that. As long as the STi keeps coming with something equivalent to the Re070, they will not be snow worthy without changing the tires. This is an accident waiting to happen. These tires do not perform in the snow, period. It's not marginal or decent, it's dangerous. Get some all-seasons or dedicated snow tires for winter.

Strange where was the question post? Hmm.. Yep the RE70's are not even really good in the rain. Dont use them in the snow! Get some Perelli P-Zero Nero's....

I posted this so I could include in the FAQ/Newbie questions. The guy that posted last night in Wheels and Tires prompted me to add this.

I just took off my RE's with 2k miles on them because winter is approaching. I didn't feel like even risking getting stuck in snow with them. I'm having Toyo Proxes 4's put on as I type this. They're highly rated for all-season ultra high-performance and do ok in the snow. Toyo is running a buy 3 get 1 tire free sale right now nationally for anyone who is interested in saving a little on all-season tires for winter.

well guys i've had 2 winters on my RE070's they go all right *not Great* in the snow, but i'd suggest you take it slow! very easy to get sideways, and i mean VERY easy. i just lock my dif. and hope for the best. i guess i also need to add that we don't get a lot of snow during the winter, maybe 2 good snows and as in good i mean 6 inches

i agree 100% with klaymon. the summer tires are not marginal at all, they are just stupid to use in the winter - not even when it snows, but once it starts to dip below 40°F.

once it get this cold and colder, the tires get so hard that it feels like they are made of ice, (and you get traction like you are on ice too). forget about locking the center diff and going - think about a car in front of you jamming on the brakes - you will not stop.

definitely get winter tires - this should be non-debatable.

You could move down here to San Antonio and then use your stock tires all year. I love not having to switch out wheels every winter.

Nokian Hakkapelliita 1 (Nordsman) is worth the effort to find.

To the guys down south who don't have to deal with snow:
Snow forces your hand. It makes you correct the bad driving habits that 300hp, tons of traction and AWD allow you to get away with. To even be safe on snow, you must be smooth. To go fast, you must be ultra-smooth. Snow is a great teacher and being the freak that I am, I look forward to mounting the Hakka's and kicking it.
AWD in the snow since '92.....
