go for it its a totally different sound, but its more nuanced than simply saying it sounds like a Honda. I think Ryan put it best when he said that it sounds like a 2 liter mixed with an EVO and pissed off.

So I sold off my old strut tower bar awhile ago since I had read that no bar really clears the Spearco TMIC that I had planned on. Since I went with a Perrin TMIC instead due to their huge Veteran's Day sale, I inquired about if their bar would clear their own TMIC. I got two or possibly three Perrin employees to tell them that 100% without a doubt, their bar clears their TMIC. Ken Jubbs guaranteed it to me in writing too, so I took the chance.

Today, thanks to the extra quick shipping of Josh at Import Image, the FedEx guy dropped this off:

It comes with instructions, a warranty registration sheet, two Perrin stickers, the wrinkle red steel bar with cast ends, zip ties and a heavy duty rubber hose for air conditioner line extending (if needed, which I don't see how it would be needed on an Impreza).

Needless to say I was pretty impressed by that last extra step irregardless.

Time to slap it on the car real quick....

here's my thinking on the turbo choice...

still searching the forums everyday. here's the thing tripping me up:

i only run 93 octane and have no plans to ever run meth on my daily driver.

with 93 octane i've seen 20gs hit 350whp-380whp.

gt30r's hit 370-400whp

fp greens 370-390whp

dom 3 370-400whp

gt52 370-400whp

spoolup times on the dyno sheets have all been 3500-4200 rpms TMIC or FMIC (obviously larger turbo with FMIC hits that 4200 rpm mark more than the 3500).

ballbearing turbos like the dom 3 require more boost pressure to make the same numbers as the journal bearing turbos (directly compared gt52 to the dom 3).

at the dragstrip, it seems the cars are all stuck in that 115-120mph range, until you get into meth/race gas, etc.

so Ryan may be onto something with recommending the 20g. i can get that 3500rpm spool with the TMIC and 20g, and that 350whp+.

it just really seems like there are a lot of turbo choices to barely hit 400whp and run similar times.

Perrin TMIC arrived today and once again, I am impressed with the quality!

Here's the box and how it was packed:

What's in the box?

Instructions, warranty card

Stencil sheet to spray paint the TMIC with the Perrin logo if you want (unlike some companies that print it on the core leaving you with no choice)

Factory checklist sheet to make sure it came with everything

The TMIC.

No ebay cheapie here. no bent, broken, or misaligned fins on the entire thing.

Last shot of the fins inside.

Very impressed with the quality once again. Looks great, I'm 50/50 on painting on the logo since it already has Perrin cast into the endtanks in a few spots.

For $511 shipped, this was a damn steal.

I've just spent over 4 hours fighting with the Perrin TMIC trying to get it lined up to the turbo and throttle body. It will not line up. I'm going to try to see if Area1320 can work with it. If not, I'm going to test out my new Remington 870 on this pile of ****.

god damnit I'm pissed. I didn't pay $500 for a part to not fit.

bump. selling the gms up-pipe and thermo-tec wrap. also going to just say **** it and sell the perrin tmic to the first person that has $500 for it.

i've decided to hold off on anything this winter, the car runs great as is and i'm really not happy with the bolt on turbos. every one is a compromise of some sort and for a car that i plan on tracking and owning for many years, i won't be happy with a compromise.

in the meantime, i'm just going to buy an Xd .40 and have fun at the range instead.
