I'll up the coilovers one thread just to get a little bit of extra clearance.
The setup right now isn't set up right anyway since with removing all those weights, I haven't had the change to cornerbalance the car yet.

Anyway, Alignment scheduled for tomorrow, 4pm.
The guy I was working with at the alignment shop isn't there anymore, I hope the new guy is as open minded.

I guess I set the rear toe to zero and the front toe a tad into toe in.
And like I said, the Camber on front will be mostly dependant on the camber of the rear. If it's -2'30" in the rear I will set the Front around -3' for example. I feel like somewhere in between 30" - 45" difference between the front and the rear is acceptable for my driving style.

Need to get the tools to do my own alignment and be independed of shops

Default Re: Ben's EJ207 MY05 WRB STI - new Alignment done #593

Alignment done.
Somehow the Shop gets more and more expensive the more I go there

Front Camber per Wheel: -258'
Rear Camber per Wheel: -225'
Front Toe (in) per Wheel: +001'
Rear Toe (out) per Wheel: -005'
Caster at the front is over 4.

Ride height is pretty even considering it's measured from body panels.
Front left: 199mm - Front right: 203mm
Rear left: 196mm - Rear right: 206mm

btw:
By the looks of it the rear right sticks more out than the rear left. I fear the new wheels will still rub with the added angle. We'll find out Wednesday.

Nice!

My car is the same way, one rear wheel sticks out more than the other. Hopefully my tires will be in tomorrow or monday, then I get to check for rubbing.. haha

Default Re: Ben's EJ207 MY05 WRB STI - Main Brake Ducting #595

Finally finished up the main brake ducting:

Tire still rubs on full lock. Guess steering angle limiters would help there. Yet for a cheap brake cooling solution the Zo6 Ducts are doing quite well.
Will improve these any further over the next week.

Like Darryl said a brake to mount the ducts more towards the front of the car would help.
These work together with the Prova Brake Ducts which guide air along the lower control arm to the disks.

Hockenheimring tomorrow!

Default Re: Ben's EJ207 MY05 WRB STI - New HHR GP personal lap record! #596

So yesterdays afterwork trackday was very fun!

I brought the Michelin Cup Set of Tires as well since I can't drive them on the road any more but they are still plenty good for dry Trackdays.

With the Afterwork Trackdays at the School of Racing you have 3 20 minute turns.
So the battle plan was to see if the Japan Racing Wheels with the AD08Rs are rub free in the first turn and see what time we can set with those.
Annoyingly though, they still slightly rub in the rear which brought me to the decision to leave the time hunting alone for that stint and switch to the Michelin Cups.
Still managed to repeat the time we set in 2015 with the AD08Rs which was a 2:06.23

Since there are two groups, Rookie and Performance with us running in the Performance group, I took the break we got from the Rookie turn to swap wheels.
The battery driven impact gun is probably the best non car part I bought this year

Off with the AD08Rs, on with the Michelin Cups.
Told Steffie to check tire pressures which were at 2bar - 29psi cold.
I usually start with 2bar cold as Michelin for example says, that you should not go below 2bar to not risk damages to the tires when heated up to aggressively.

We went out on the Cups which gave me a good reminder about the difference of Ultra High Performance Tires and Semi Slicks.
The Semi Slicks need to be up to operating temperature to work which results in wild drift-os if not. So we had a good amount of fun in getting the tires up to temp.

The first timed lap after the outlap in the second turn was a 2:07.32 only about a second slower (because of not ideal tire temps) as with the AD08Rs.
Lap 2 was a 2:04.23 already being .3 of a second faster than our previous personal best.
In Lap 3 though I managed to do a 2:03.51!
Which is a solid second faster than the 2:04:53 we drove back in december.
Lap 4 was cut short due to fuel starvation. Actually I'm not sure if it was because it happened in a lefthander when I bit the wheel, which would be uncommon but it could have also been a fuel cut due to overboost. Have to investigate.
Rest of the turn we took it slowly and battled with some other cars for good fun.

During the break we went to fuel up the car to be ready for the last time hunting session of the day.

Turn 3 I let everyone past me in the pits so I have a good few free laps.
...which didn't happen because we were too quick for the slower traffic in the Performance Group.
So the first timed lap on the Michelin Cups was another 2:07.03 but then on the second lap we hit traffic and had to make our way through which cost time. But since this all is just for fun I enjoyed reading peoples lines and figuring out where to overtake and such. Good fun!

Four Laps later traffic wasn't an issue anymore and we set a 02:04.64 which was .1 slower than back in december. Now being aware of where I lost time and where to gain I went maximum attack mode.
On the Start/Finish straight I had a BMW on the left and a 944 Porsche on the right with enough Space in between them to plow through.
Since both were holding their line nicely we just went for it and set our personal fastest Lap to date at the Hockenheimring.

2:02.43 !

A solid 2.1 seconds faster than back in december!

Now, how much is this time worth for itself you might ask?
Well, see for yourself:
Hockenheim GP lap times - FastestLaps.com

Steffie said, her adrenalin levels were constantly high on the passenger seat
She was mostly worried about the traffic since the Afterwork Trackday was fully booked which means a maximum of 35 cars per Group.
Studying other peoples lines, braking points, turn in was good fun and practise. I must say with the School of Racing events, people are very aware of their surroundings on track which makes for a really good experience!

There was one Cayman GT4 with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Tires which did a 2:01.xxx

The new alignment / setup on the car works great!
I have so much more mid corner grip and feedback from the front which better turn in and out of the corner acceleration that the data logger shows all my corner exit speeds were much higher than before!
All of this goes into the right direction.
My overall goal with the car to hit sub 2 minutes...or at least 2 minutes flat is reachable.

Considering I always have 65kgs of extra weight next to me in the shape of my Girlfriend, a 2:01.xxx time is really possible as a passenger on the Hockenheimring at around 70kgs of weight costs you 1 second per lap.

With a proper set of KW Clubsports I guess we could easily shave off some more time with the right damper settings.
Which makes it even more amazing to what those KW V1 Coilovers are capable of.

Now the bad news:
Forgot to switch off the GoPro after each turn so the last turn wasn't recorded due to a full memory card

So far, so good.
Will post videos tonight / tomorrow or on the weekend.

Here have some sick oldschool BMW Racecar pictures:

Very nice update and really good time versus cars on the chart. Thanks for sharing.
