Default Carl's 05 SM Class STi - Ain't nobody got time fo dat

Before she was wrapped.

My suspension thread had turned into a bit of a journal, so I figured that I would actually make a journal on here. Doglegging at Autocross

The picture that started my quest for a proper autocross setup:

Purchased the car December of 2009 with 16K miles on the odometer. Left it stock for about a year before taking the plunge into Stage 2. After having boost control issues I decided to make the jump to an external wastgate. It is an atomospheric dump, but works extremely well.

In 2012 I found an SCCA region about an hour from me. That's when the autocross bug bit me. The problem was that I had already modded the STI into SM meaning my PAX would be terrible.

This year we have voted to create a pax multiplier for SM on street tires. This will help us modded guys just running street tires.

Replaced wheel bearing on the left side and pulled the coilovers off the car, as one of my rear RCE Tarmac 2'ss sprung an oil leak. These are not covered by the Racecomp Engineering warranty, as I sold me original T0's to purchase these used. Still trying to find someone to repair/rebuild. PSi in Sonoma can't work on KW anymore.

Car is back moving on street tires and factory stuts. I miss having coilovers already this week driving it to work.

Side note, my wife and I autocrossed her Forester XT on all seasons, stock sways, and stock struts. This was her first ever autocross.

Spent $140 today shipping all four coilovers to Odi @ Feal Suspension. Trying to get the car prepped for next season.

Glad you got the dampers sent out. They should come back in tip top condition.

What all do you plan on doing before next season?

Mainly maintenance items.

TIC Diff bushings
TIC fender braces
Install the coilovers back in
New alignment -3F/-2R
New fluids; brake, diff, transmission, engine
New street tires
Try to find someone to weld my litespeed header (cracked)
Pads are still good, looks like these DS2500s last a long time.

Came home to a present today.

All four re-welded, rebuilt, new dust covers. 600s on the front were a bit high for the valving, it appeared the rears were damaged by too short of a spring. A 7KG swift spring replaces the rear, the 500 rear is now on the front.

In short these are now 500F/400R.

I'm not positive about this, but I think fender braces are not allowed in SM. There is no mention of it in the rule book, and the intent is if it doesn't say you can, you can't. You could write the SM SEB and ask if it is allowed. But, I would only do that if you/your region are super serious about the classing rules. In my home region, we wouldn't care and let you run SM. Just a warning.

I think I read in the SM nasioc thread that they are illegal. Also not 100% on that though. However with the update/backdate rule, you could get some from an 07 (maybe 06 as well?) as I have heard they are stiffer.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Didn't realize it wasn't something allowed for SM.
