IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2004 | So Bruce...this week or next? (BTW, you gotta catch-can in that package? You'll need one, trust me. My new set-up pushes a lot more oil out the crankcase vent tube than the VF39 did, especially at 1.6 bar. The puffs of smoke really worried me at first, until my mechanic showed me where the oil was originating from.) |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 | daily update - day 47 we attacked all the last minute fabricating today. the intercooler plumbing on the driver side posed the first challenge. the perrin fuel rails have to cross over the plumbing - the question was; above the pipe or below it. after considering the alternatives, i made an executive decision to try running them over the top. i, literally, stood on top of and bounced up and down on the intercooler pipe, directly over the mounting bracket to drop it as low as we could without breaking it. then we added a 1 1/4" spacer to raise the height of the mount for the fuel rails to get them over the top of the pipe cleanly - while still having enough clearance under the hood. we dropped the hood on to see if everything fit and, surprise, it did. our next fierce battle - we got the turbo kit permanently installed. we lined up, shook, wiggled prodded and pry it into place and completely tightened down. by the time we were finished it had taken way more time than we expected, killing any hope that we'd be able to start it tonight. the exhaust system is finished except to bolt up our new, removable catless section. the engine bay is almost done. the injectors, perrin fuel rails and additional braided lines are finished. i corsetted the intercooler plumbing for the passenger side and that side is ready to be hooked up to the intercooler. all the difficult stuff is done. the list of things left is dwindling fast. i'm leaving ricky alone to work on the car tomorrow. if it's not finished tomorrow evening, it will be on sunday, the next day we can work on it. i'll have pm's out to everyone on my notification list when we see the end. there will be a party at the shop. Right now I am still waiting on the dealer to install a new clutch but should be done around the 20th, since there damn tranny guy is away on vacation . Maybe I can come down and take a ride in your car then? Good luck with the tuning. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2003 | thanks for the encouragement mycues, speed and evil! you know you guys are always welcome. speednice can show you how to get here (isfh). we came this close {{holding up a c*nt hair}} to starting the motor last night. the koyo radiator is going to require some fabrication because of the intercooler pipe on the driver's side. the spillover tank has to be relocated. the battery tray is a likely place since the battery is moved to the trunk. it will share space with the catch can for now. we are running out of obstacles and stupid sh*t and are down to the last stretch of odds and ends. ricky is doing tandem (skydives) today (sat) but we'll be back at it again sunday. sunday...sunday ...sunday...if you have any plans to join us on the official start-up and festivities, i'd plan for then; barring an unforseen delay. what an adventure... |
