Re: Joey's pathetic grocery getter (finally made a journal)

Thanks for the comments guys.

It seems UM still cannot find a professor to teach internal combustion engines.
That's almost as bad as the handful of muscle cars I see when I go to the grocery store - none of them are modded, not even an exhaust!
Well, I have my ways...

Okay, so the rebuilding manual transmissions book is just for fun.

Re: Joey's pathetic grocery getter (finally made a journal)

I have the Fuel Injection book and there's alot of stuff in there I don't quite understand...almost but not fully. There's formulas that I don't feel I need, kinda like engineering of parts I guess. I'm only a couple chapters into it though. When I get back from Germany, I plan to take EFI's week long ACP program for tuning.

GL with the protune and enjoy the ride!!

Thanks. I wish I could start reading them, but I have waaaaay too many things to install. I've never had this much stuff before. Lots of good fun is in the works for this summer.

Here's a teaser pic I guess - Koyo radiator with Swaintech's BBE coating.

Re: Joey's pathetic grocery getter (parts overload, Koyo rad with Swaintech's BBE)

The car is coming along nicely.:tup: I'm glad you started a journal. I still need to do that myself. That coated radiator looks good. I was curious what the end result would look like after I sent it to Swaintech. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of all the Whiteline stuff you just ordered. Those were some of the best mods I made to my car.

Re: Joey's pathetic grocery getter (parts overload, Koyo rad with Swaintech's BBE)

Yeah, it took me awhile to make one. It practically took me 2 years to discover IWSTI, doh. You do need a journal. I have no notion of your car other than those two autox videos where you seem to be going really fast.

I had the radiator coated for three reasons. First, I wanted the black color since I'm going for a blue and black theme. It may not be as cool as the murdered out black or the white and black combo, but I hope it'll work. Second, I thought coating the metal would offer better corrosion protection. A tech at Swaintech wouldn't confirm anything about corrosion resistance since it wasn't designed for that purpose, but I would think a coating would be better than nothing. Third, black surfaces emit more thermal radiation, so there's an increase in cooling capacity. Of course, convection is the dominant mode of heat transfer. It's hard to work out the exact increase since it largely depends on the ambient temperature as well as the velocity of air flow over the core. Nevertheless, Swaintech said it's in the ballpark of 5%.

I'll let you know about the Whiteline stuff. It seems the more I learn, both about modding and the feel of driving the car, the more disappointed I become in the choice of OEM parts. That's codename for buying lots of stuff from you.

I hate how society now thinks long hair automatically means weirdo or worse...
Haha, I've never really been someone to care about what others think of me (until I fell in love, but that's just one exception). She wanted to see my hair long, so I gave it a try. Regardless of the length, I like my sideburns to be at least to the bottom of my ears. I'm sure some people consider that as rebellious, instead of seeing it as just part of the haircut.

Re: Joey's grocery getter (parts overload, ACPT driveshaft in the house!)

Just got an ACPT carbon fiber composite driveshaft in the mail! The found it used on NASIOC and the price was an absolute steal - so good of a deal that I couldn't pass it up. It was part of my eventual build plan although I didn't think I'd have one for years since it's not necessary. I'm quite interested to see how this feels since I like my lightweight pulleys so much.

Re: Joey's grocery getter (parts overload, ACPT driveshaft in the house!)

Awesome piece man.
Thanks, I think it has 10k miles on it.

Hey JL,
That driveshaft has the same rotational rub mark as mine(back near the rear diff flange-maksing tape just touches rear edge). I can tell you what it is from and how I attempted to fix it a few weeks ago. (gonna put my car on hoist in a couple of hours to verify after running Mid-Ohio Raceway last week)
Yeah, I know what you mean. I had previously skimmed through that huge thread on the driveshaft. If it is indeed just a cosmetic blemish, I can live with it. I just hope it doesn't look like I machined it on a lathe and ruin the structural integrity, so as to cause more rotational deformation. I got some Torque Solution driveshaft bushings in transit. I hope that will help, but I honestly have no idea. The seller recommended putting washers to add clearance to the support bracket. Any advice you have is certainly welcome.

By the way, you're location looks like I'm awfully close to you. You're on a whole other level though; I just drive around town (Ann Arbor).

Re: Joey's protune preparation: what is with the relentless cell phone ads?

What is with all the cell phone spammers lately? I would think it's harder and harder to scam people given that we are so aware of it. Do they even get people by posting on car forums?

What? Did someone say cell phones for sale? Where?
:stupid: Is there a cell phone group buy?

Car looks great buddy! I'm looking forward to seeing this journal develop.

To those of you that haven’t seen many of Joey's posts... the guy knows his ****... He’s probably in the top few most knowledgeable members up there with Turbineguy.

All right, you found me. Whore posting has now begun in my journal. :D You and Charged doing a rematch anytime soon?

Thanks, but you give me too much credit. TG is tuning his car, among other things. For all we know, he could be posting on gas turbine forms and teaching rich guys how to modify their private helicopters. I'm going to try to make a silly video for his standalone ECU by using an AM radio and a toy car STI.

I'm looking forward to it developing, too. The only bad part is that my tuner hasn't given me any prices on some of these crazy ideas. *gulp* One can only guess where the decimal point will be on the final price.

Re: Joey's protune preparation: what is with the relentless cell phone ads?

With the above said.... **** you! I've been looking for a steal on a carbon fiber driveshaft for the past 6 months. :(
Oh, it was ridiculous. The seller kept spelling it APCT, instead of ACPT. Anyone who was using the search function would have never found it. I was manually browsing the for sale threads on NASIOC. Who does that? I must have been really bored that day. I also think he priced it too low, but I'm not complaining.

By the way, I know there's one for sale here, but I think the price was a little high for it being used. You may be able to talk him down since he hasn't been able to sell it. I think it's somewhere in NY.

Re: Joey's protune preparation: BAD STI found my journal :D

Even turbine guy lets us have a hint of what he's trying to do... :(
Yeah, sorry. The shop asked me not to reveal any details. Because they haven't released it and it's not on sale, they don't want other shops to steal their idea. I know I'd be pissed it someone took my ideas.

I'll make sure to film plenty of videos afterward. I hope to be done by the end of August.

In a couple years, I may start to tackle my wish list. I'll see how it goes. I'd eventually like to do something crazy, like a supercharger or two different sized turbos. I have no idea if it'd even be tunable. I don't really care about the horsepower, just as long as I don't blow up the car. *knock on wood*

Re: Joey's protune preparation: BAD STI found my journal :D

Why are you in ninja mode? Who are you hiding from? :scurred:
Ha, I forgot to answer your question.
I'm just a little guy in the scheme of things. Literally, I'm 5'8" 150lbs. and I didn't fair too well in PE class when I had wrestling and martial arts. I spent most of my time in a headlock trying not to choke.

I'm in ninja mode because I really don't have any info. I wish I did. Take, for example, the fact that I want UEL headers. I have a few vendors in mind, but I have no details, no pictures, no dyno graphes, and no prices. I dunno what to do besides wait. :notsure:

Re: Joey's protune preparation: BAD STI found my journal :D

Joey... I want your shaft. :naughty:
Well, you already destroyed one door... what's one more? Seriously though, it is pretty light and you could probably kick it down. Since it's just a little apartment by myself, I don't even bother to close the bathroom door. Just make sure to yell in case I'm on the toilet.
