Bishop, here's the deal.

Crawford doesn't recommend replacing the boost control solenoid. I run the stock setup on my 35r kit. Now, having said that....i don't think there is a tuner out there that can tune the stock setup on a big turbo.....other than I-speed.

I suggest you pick your tuner, and follow his path. (though I do NOT agree with the standalone, whole heartedly. That's bogus for a DD 30red car ) dunno where he's coming from?

Crawford is also the only one who seems to make any real power with the "magic" 720cc injectors.

Conclusion: you will get completely worse mileage with e85...exspecially at WOT.
you need to follow your tuners suggestions when It comes to EM and injectors- two VERY critical parts.
They can tune any turbo kit just fine.....

It sounds like you're confused between your "tuner" and what you've been talking to crawford and hearing from me. You need to pick your parts wisely, or you will be an unhappy customer with either the tuner, or Crawford.

I want the best possible running car for you...and we're here to help.

Just trying to set you straight.

Ryan

Ryan, thanks again for chiming in.... after talking to you, STI-LOS, and Applez, along with some hoped for feedback on JSCspeed's forum, im stopping my planning / progress as of today to rethink everything.... i'm at work so i cant talk for long, but i'm hoping to start over on my research with an open mind, knowing i dont NEED ProTune for stg 2, and that i dont necessarily need a standalone for my turbo upgrade. Also have been getting some negative feedback (which was appreciated) on the tuner, his methods and the graphs he was posting for stg 2 07 stis... after looking back, i guess i didnt really think too much about him only pushing 16psi to make the "best" power... This is all my mistake, i got excited and ahead of myself, the one thing i was GREATLY trying to avoid.... im now again, open to suggestions and a modding path, and in agreement w/ Modaddict i'll most likely be using I-Speed to tune my 30R... i was just a little overwhelmed because i dont have a laptop and never learned a THING about datalogging, or how to tune my own vehicle.... i'll try to learn as much of this down the road though so i have a smooth tuning experience when i upgrade the turbo.... Thanks again all

^^^ That's what I thought about the Standalone advice.. I mean a standalone has its place but I dont think its for what he is looking to do.

Yeah man take your time, get the mods that you really want that are goona work with your future mods aswell. As for the Tuner well that is up to you if you dont feel comfortable then dont ,its not only a few hundreds bucks, but its your CAR you know what I mean.. I would really talk to a few guys, I mean I was like having auditions to see who was gonna tune me , no but really I talked to a few tuners and I did alot of research on what mods guys did how there tunes turned out with that method etc etc. Till finally I found a awesome tuner who really knew his stuff, I gave him the breakdown of all the mods I had and wanted to do and he gave me his advice and we worked out a game plan.

So I think you should just really find a Tuner you are totally comfortable with. Good luck

Carlos

Ben, this is the BEST advice I can give you.

keep EVERYTHING you do with one shop...whatever shop that may be. You will end up having a FAR better product in the end.

and im talking everything. motor work, tuning (both sooo critical) and the "kits" you buy.

You will thank yourself in the long run for this.

Thanks Carlos, the biggest problem is Harvey is the only guy around here tuning Subys that i know of.... you said before he was desperate for work, but he really isnt around here.... pretty much EVERYONE has to go to him because hes the only local.... trust me, i WISH i lived on the east or west coast so i could do a little more research between available tuners...

And i just wanted to clarify.... for the 07, i can use the Stg2 OTS map w/ no negative repercussions correct? im not sure if im going to use Cobb, or go stg 2 even rather just wait for the turbo, i was just curious that the 07s are safe on the off the shelf map

Thanks Ryan... i'll do my best to follow these guidelines, and i know why your giving this advice.... i'm not 100% sure the local shops do everything though, but i'll cross that bridge when it comes...
Just gonna kick back, go wash my car, go to class, and start fresh when i get home tonight

EDIT: Snow / rain predicted for next 2 days, no washing tonight.... Just got off the phone w/ Chris at Cobb tuning regarding the OTS maps for the 07 STi.... basically need a catted DP unless i wanna risk overboosting alot.... i also read that tech bulletin that had been posted for those who would still like to run a catless system... i'll see if i can sell it, or maybe trade it for a catted downpipe... If anyone has one for sale, lemme know..... (Im still considering what i'll do for stg 2, but Cobb OTS w/ catted DP seems the best and most $$ smart way ATM while i wait and save for the turbo upgrade....) anyone have any thoughts? lemme know

No tuners even if you travel a little? I am not sure with your area, but like for me I had to travel 2-3 hours but like I said I am not sure about your area.

I would do the research, cause I would get a Pro-tune with a STG 2 07 that's just my opinion. I have a 06 so I am not 100%

I wouldn't be against traveling, if the Tuner is well enough known.... but i haven't heard of anyone else in Colorado.... if theres a list of tuners registered / sanctioned with Cobb, i would definitely make the trip
