Default Justin's Sti Journal - New parts, new tune

I have been wanting to make a journal of my car for about 2 years now but never had to time to get around to it. So for the New Year I decided I would finally sit down and do this.

First thing's first; a quick and dirty time line to get things up to speed

June 2005 - bought my car on kind of a whim. My Mustang had died on me, I was doing tons of travelling in the NE area and I needed a car. My old man and I drove around and did some car shopping, the second dealer we passed was a Subaru dealer so we stopped there and I was checking out (unbeknownst to me at the time) my current car. We drove around some other dealers, checked out some other similar cars but my mind always went back to the STi. Two days later it was sitting in my driveway.

November 2005 - installed the Cobb stage 2 and had it dyno tuned by Tony at XXTuning. The car made 290/325 at the wheels.

June 2007 - after installed an APS CAI and Cobb pulley I decided to get it tuned again by Chris at XXTuning. The car made 295/340 at the wheels

August 2007 - attempted theft of my car. They would have gotten away with it if it was a 2004, but the noobs didn't realize it had an immoblizer and tried to hot wire it like it was a 1985 Monte Carlo. About 2k of total damage; fixed the sheetmetal near the a-pillar, replaced aluminum trim around the window, new keys and ignition.

December 2007 - everything that could go wrong with the turbo, did go wrong with the turbo. The wastegate housing cracked, the stock inlet tube ripped and collapsed on itself near the turbo and the oil feed line cracked and sprayed oil in my engine bay.

January 1, 2008 - new turbo is installed (Deadbolt TD06-18G) and I am currently breaking it in as per Deadbolts instructions before the dyno tune. New custom oil feed lines and new GMS inlet tube is also installed. Perrin EBCS and Walbro fuel pump sitting on the side lines until the tune.

January 19, 2008 - 18g is tuned at XXTuning by Chris and Walbro fuel pump and Prodrive ECBS installed. Post #12

March 16, 2008 - Spearco TMIC installed Post #21

April 20, 2008 - New tires and Crawford A/O separator installed. 740cc injectors waiting for tune!Post #24

May 24, 2009 - Well it's been awhile since I last updated this page so I figured now is a good time. So what's new? Well the Deadbolt 18g decided to take a crap on me, the guys at EFI figured it was a bearing failure. When they dropped the DP oil poured out of the turbo and one of the turbine blades was broken off (maybe this is why DB is out of business). No biggie really... good excuse to upgrade

So I drop my car off at EFI after my turbo blew and talked with Chris. He convinced me to get a Blouch Dominator 2.5r (Polka Pickle), upgrade from the 65mm APS to a 70mm and also switch from the AP v1 to the v2. I got the car back on Friday the 22nd and had an absolute blast driving back down to Jersey. The 2.5r is an amazing turbo and the new AP v2 really cleaned up the drive-by-wire issues. I didn't scan my dyno sheet yet but you can see the dyno at EFI's web site by clicking here. You can see the 18g and the 2.5r dyno's for comparison.

That's it for the time being. I will take some pics of the blown 18g, get the dyno scanned and take some current exterior pics of the car soon to get my journal back up to speed

August 26, 2009 - Welp... dropped a bunch of money again on the car. I now have an APS 725 FMIC, APS dual vent BOV, Kaminari CF hood and an STi limited wing. I uploaded some pics of the car to my site but they didn't come out that great, but I do plan on taking some better shots.

Got the car tuned by Chris at EFI and I made some pretty good numbers. 350hp and 371tq at the wheels with 22lbs of boost tapering off to about 20 on the top end. Probably could have gotten more but he suspected a bad tank of gas. Which is just as well cause I will most likely get another tune after I get a nice meth setup Here is the link at EFI, I will scan my dyno sheet soon Dyno Database Online New pics on post 37.

December 2, 2009 - Decided that it was time to start upgrading the engine a bit. It's now at EFI as of Monday to get some forged pistons, KillerB oil pickup tube, TGV deletes, timing belt and of course a retune.

December 17, 2009 - Car is back from EFI! New engine and a ton of other goodies done to the car, now I am just breaking the motor in and then a new tune.

Here is a quick video of my car on the dyno. Made 337hp and 351tq.

Also, pardon the smoke coming out the exhaust. But after the 18g blew it decided to coat the inside of my exhaust with oil. Chris had to run it on the dyno for a bit to clean it out and their entire parking lot was covered in white smoke.

How did you install your STI front strut bar with the air conditioning issue and the horn for the factory alarm. A pic of the engine bay would be very helpful. Thanks!

Beautiful ride! What kind of #'s are you expecting for your new tune?

The only issue I had was with the AC line on the drivers side. If you check out this pic and look at the brass-ish colored bracket in the red square... you can see where I had to remove the top AC bracket bolt and turn it slightly.

As for the factory alarm horn, I just removed the bracket on the strut tower, took off the horn and moved it down the strut tower a bit to another factory hole that was already there. Can see the (poor quality) pic here.

I am honestly not sure yet. I didn't want to go too crazy with a turbo and I was really happy with the power I was making before the factory turbo died on me, which is why I didn't get a 20g. I talked to Jerry at DB and he convinced me that this will fill my purposes.

I still haven't got new injectors yet so I think that will hinder any better power gains... so maybe 310-320 to the wheels? I plan on telling Chris at XX to keep it a safe tune and then I will try to max it out when I get a header, up-pipe and injectors.

Thanks for the compliments everyone I still really need to get more updated pics with my new trunk and wing.
