IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 | Hi, I'm in the UK and have found your cool little project. I have experience with programming PICs. With one of these you could cut out a lot of the unnecessary hardware you have and produce a very small all in one device. Give me a shout if you would to discuss further. Good work though and excellent idea !! Steve |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | True...I could do it off the PIC that controls the LCD screen. Or use some other pic I used the arduino for several reasons... -built in expandability -easy for the average user to flash...no need for a JTAG -easy for the average user to disassemble and add new parts -Easy to do serial logging...on all major platforms -easy as all get out to program -readily available -initial price on my part was very low |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | Another thought... I'm only using about 1/2 the programming space on the microcontroller. Sooooo, what else would someone be interested in (probably a button selectable meter)? So far I've though electronic boost gauge w/peaks, under hood temps, EGT, water temp, etc. I should be able to display data from any of the already on the car sensors or from almost any available analog or digital sensor (pressure, induction, temps, etc.) I'd rather not do A/F ratio. The A/F wideband sensor itself is the major cost when you purchase one of these and the units on the market are pretty darn good. I can't read from the OBD-II port and I definitely can't do the WPSM protocol. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | It is doable but it has been done before. http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3855 (un and pwd are goober for viewing pictures) and here: Automatic Intercooler Sprayer (boost referenced) Good idea though...I like how you are thinking. My newest idea is a simple stopwatch...mount a switch on the wheel or whatever and use it to stop/start things. |

I like the stopwatch. Make a lap timer and it would be even better. Also, a peak function like defi gauges have would be nice, as would a record/playback function. Assuming this can be done without the $60 card attachment. A temp sensor would be nice. You could put it wherever you want. Maybe even multiple. One could go after my intercooler for intake temp and the other could go on the intercooler for its temp.

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | This is becoming more and more of a blog type thing but oh well... Another idea: -A bunch of us own wii motes. -wii-motes don't cost much ~$40 -A wii mote has all the sensors and stuff you need to do accelerometer logging. -a wii mote is basic bluetooth and drivers have been written for winxp, os x, linux, etc. 1) Tape wii mote to dash 2) pair wii mote with computer 3) have passenger hold computer 4) drive wiki page on the drivers: http://www.wiili.org/Wiimote_driver I think I might try this sometime soon and post a how to in another thread. |

temp sensors - easy...very easy and very cheap. playback is a bit more involved but still doable. Lap timer with radio tags and stuff would be nice. I might make this a sep unit or something. But would be $$.
