IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | I'm ordering the next round of parts on the 1st (gave myself a deadline for picking senders or I'll research them to death). Look for Ordering: -44psi pressure sender (5V to 5V) - wonderfully easy to use and I'm using one that is used in oem applications -oil temp sender - this is the one I haven't decided on...I'm looking at 400F autometer ones with adapters or dakota digital ones with adapters or isopro ones with isopro adapters. -breakaway header pins - I'm going to use these to make the plugging in of things easy...no more screw terminals...just plug and play -misc electrical carp like heat shrink, color coded wire, etc. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | On order: 1 x M18x1.5 oil temp sender (it'll fit directly in place of the oil idiot light sensor...or the gallery plug under the intercooler) 2 x 300C thermocouples a lot x male to male header pins 1 x tiny 2.9 - 44 psi (really 30something once you account for natural atmospheric pressure) pressure sensor ...and I went to ratshack and bought a couple spools of colored wire and and assortment of heatshrink. I should have enough unique color combos to make plug and play fairly easy. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | Maybe... I'm allowed one car thing per weekend...my CEO says so . I'm signed up for an autox on Saturday, but its at Osbourn Park HS in Manasshole. I could do half a day I maybe?? It might rain too. Next weekend is the wife's Bday (its friday...and we celebrated early...so, we'll see) and the weekend after we have visitors on saturday...I should have a good idea of what will be here and when pretty soon. I already got an email from egauges saying the oil temp sender is on backorder and will be shipped out the 9th. Digikey (who I bought the rest of the stuff from) hasn't emailed me a tracking number yet. Due to the holiday it might not be here by Friday. EDIT: I used el cheapo USPS shipping...it'll probably get here next week. Maybe next weekend then...sunday perhaps. Once it gets here I need to spend time rewiring things (2hrs max) all nice and tidy with the soldering gun and heatshrink. Then I need to pop on the sensors and calibrate them (another hour or so). For pressure I basically have to go off of another boost gauge to see what the voltage readings are...can an accessport do basic functions like read boost off a ECU it's not married to? For the two temp sensors I'll just have to make a voltage divider (and wire it up all nice and stuff) and do the maths to get the proper readings. BTW i moved my clock to the ashtray area. It was pretty easy. Only thing that went wrong was burning my finger on the soldiering iron. /rambling Last edited by sti robot; 07-02-2007 at 09:22 AM.. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | Current code todos: 1st priority - write a function to constantly check all sensors for warning values and switch to the mode with the warning value so it's warning (blinking and/or beeping) will go off. Right now if you are in the boost mode and your oil temp rises you would get no warning and that would be no good for you or your engine. 2nd priority - persistent timer over mode changes - useful for longer timings |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | ^ 1st priority above is done. Might spend some time coding priority #2 tomorrow as I've got the day off. Might change the oil on the TDI though and not get to #2 tomorrow. On priority one...the problem is this. If it changes to another mode because of warning. It'll stay in that mode until the warning is mitigated. So until your oil temp goes down you are stuck in that mode. I think I might want to change this somehow. Any ideas? |

Now i can switch through modes and no matter what state the timer is in (timing, in between laps, zeroed, etc.) and it will be the same when I get back. Two things though: 1) 9 hour from boot up before error...so you can time anything that is within the 9 hours...I doubt this is problem for anyone. 2) I used a lot of poor coding practices to put this together. I need to tidy up and reuse code without ctrl-c/ctrl-v. EDIT: I fixed #2. Unfortunately I'm laying in bed about to fall asleep so i cant physically load this on to the board to test it out. IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | An update: I received all the sensors. I wired up the temp sensors, but screwed up in thinking that the resistance to temp relationship was positive. It is negative and it is not 1/1...it is a curve (boo!). So, I've got to write some code to take care of that. The pressure sensor I got is tiny...so tiny that I think I melted part of it when trying to soldier it up (I'm going to try to salvage this one for kicks by using some female header pins...but I may have melted a hole in the housing which would result in a crap pressure reading). I'm thinking of switching to traditional pressure sender as it will be harder to damage in day to day use and it's cost is similar ($14 vice $18). |
