Not much more than 200° f is my guess. I think the probe should be able to read 0°f to 4 or 500°f.

I bet it is this. Auto-x causes some crazy g's to happen in all directions with quick changes in opposing directions.

Ok, so a rewiring is in order...with zipties...an enclosure...maybe some heatshrink.

Cool on the sensor. I found some I think might work.

I received a nice package of 5 enclosures today. I think 1 of them works well. The others not so much. The one I like is the most expensive ($6) for small runs. and about the size of a bar of soap. It would most likely house the screen and the buttons.

The one I like is at the bottom. The battery is for size reference.

Misc...

-I got two more enclosures yesterday. One of them nicely fits for the board.
-The guys at nasioc seem to like VFD's instead of LCD's. They are $70 instead of $30 but look rad ( http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=27970) and are easier to see in all light conditions (incl full sun). Eh, nasioc is all about bling sometimes.
-I finally got the darn thing out of the car last night and wired up the buttons. Everything is sitting on my desk in "prototype mode". The timer function works...I'm actually surprised my code worked so well with only a few tweaks (I had to clean up start and stop with the button to not be frustrating). Also, the mode switching works really well. I'll get on tweaking the performance meter code soon and maybe buy a pressure gauge too (then I can have boost w/peak!).

the expensive display looks good. you could maybe add some bitmaps in to show the function.

stopwatch
thermometer
...

but cheap is nice, too.

VFD's are what apex'i uses on their devices and frankly I don't want to reproduce their rev speed meter ( http://www.apexi-usa.com/product_ele...=199&pageNum=1)

Its a nice unit but it has a bunch of useless functions. RPM, MPH??? I've got those already. So I've got to innovate a little bit. I'll do that with boost peak, side to side display, custom messages, tiny footprint, color matching display, clock replacement, usb connectivity, etc.

This weekend afforded me some time to work on things...

-boost and temp sensors will work with the generic meter display function...currently they are running with a random number generator so all I have to do is switch out one or two lines of code to get them going once I get the sensors.
-currently everything is out of the car and a mess on my desk (in "development mode" )
-The timer function is done...it'll go up to 9 hours (it could go more but that would require more code due to a limitation with the board. The board's millisecond counter goes to 9 hours and then starts back again at 0). The hours'll be useful for timing road trips and comparing different routes to the office (as well as lap times).

"development mode"

The timer no longer looks exactly like that but more like "00:00:00.00" or "hours:minutes:seconds.milliseconds".

I'm thinking about shelving the 0-60/hp estimate/quarter mile thing for now. I think I'm headed in the direction of making this more of digital gauges in a discrete package sort of thing.

looks great! stock even!

I like the time for everyday stuff like knowing when the engine is ready to go (15 min in the winter, 7 in the summer...) since I don't have an oil gauge.
