I'm proposing it is possible...

I'll be working on the lap timer next week when my wife it out of town. Sorry for the lack of updates recently, I've been hella busy.

^ Would require ECU connection ooooor....

You could have some sort of switches the shifter hits at different points. Or two sensors set on the shaft on the shifter. Based on the x and y positions of the shifter you could determine the gear. Oooor you could take a joystick sensor and attach it parallel to the shaft of the shifter.

Unfortunately, I don't have any plans to do this right now...but if I think of a really easy way...

I'm currently using one of these: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/pro...roducts_id=843

but plan on switching to one of these:
http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/pro...roducts_id=849

I'm not using the digital outs (PWM) so the second one is better/cheaper.

If you wanted to incorporate this into your carputer it'd be relatively easy. An arduino and an accelerometer shouldn't set you back much and the code for simple serial comm of the data back to the carputer would be simple.

Thanks mate, i have ordered the Accelerometer. I will be interfacing this with a PIC for serial output to the CarPc.

I'll let you know how i get on.

Sweet deal! You should make a "meatball" display to show exactly where all the cornering forces are. That would a be a sweet graph.
