IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | Data Logger Ideas: This is purely speculation righ now so take it all with a grain of salt. The goals of this device would be to have something that is easy to set up, light, and fairly accurate. What data will it take? -GPS data will be used for track lap segmentation and track mapping. -accelerometer will be used to plot g forces -data will be correlated in pc software -lap specific outputs and graphs will be created automatically What kind of in car interface? -On and off switch -LED's and or LCD output to idicate GPS lock -Error output for GPS probs, missing or messed up memory cards, etc. -single button for user to maker track start...GPS will then use that area to segment laps or user can manually segment laps by clicking the button. How accurate will it be? -This depends on the software/hardware. The goal will be to meet or beat a main stream commercial product. What is the basis for the hardware? -An embeded low power CPU like the GeOD or via C3. What software would be included? -Backup image of the OS for the unit itself. The OS/software will probably reside on a flash memory card and the data will be written to another flash memory card. -Software for display and making sense of data on PC. I'm not sure if this will be something I straight write, excel macros or some sort of combo. How big will it be? -About the size of a paperback Will it be for sale? Maybe...It all depends on how successful I am/how ineterested people are. Tell me what you guys think of this idea. I know it's already been done commerially but its kind of expensive. I'm about 80% going to go ahead and do this. I don't need any commitment and I don't know how much i'll all end up costing/looking like/etc. Questions for you guys: -How would you want to power it? Battery, 12V direct, cig plug, multiple options? -What type of flash card do you prefer? -What other features would you want? -How would you like to mount something like this in your car (keep in mind NASA rules, etc.)? If anyone is interested in testing this out at summit or VIR pm and I'll keep you in mind if I get this up and running before next summer. Similar stuff: The DL-1 http://www.race-technology.com/conte...pcat=4&cat=617 AiM sports stuff http://www.aimsports.com/ but without the lcd displays (maybe) Last edited by sti robot; 02-27-2007 at 06:38 AM.. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2004 | I would definitely be willing to test this once you come up with something. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 | Holy thread resurrection batman! The post was originally part of me screwing around trying to figure out what I wanted to do as an electronics project thing. I've settled on something slightly different than the above (and I've been working on it off and on for over a year now). It's not complete and it doesn't do gps (probably won't ever). One of the last loose ends of the project is the logging part, which I hope to have figured out soon. http://www.iwsti.com/forums/interior...more-wiki.html or robotmeter.com |
