Please keep us posted on the reply. It's quite annoying to have it not work right.

No sooner did you write that, couchflambeau, but I received this email to my inquiry to Kenwood:

Looks like I've stumped them. Perhaps they are going and trying to press the buttons as I documented to them on an 8120 themselves?

yeah, I stumped them when I told them I needed to sum the sub output and they told me to use a y-connector.... which may not damage anything but when channels can feedback into oneanother on the op-amp side, at the very least induces distortion. I had to find my own answer..... Good job tech support

I hope they do a better job on your question... we can all use the info.

I messed around with this enough to figure this one out.

You make a directory on the SD card named /Garmin/poi and put the output file of the Garmin POILoader program in that directory.

I now have all parking garages in SF, all WellsFargo ATM, Starbucks available to me... and apparently a "stinky locations" database that will warn me when approaching a stinky area.

I also have the Garmin 2009 map updates for my Nuvi, and the file from that worked dandy too in the \Garmin folder -- so I have Garmin's latest maps...

Good work! Any links to this Garmin POI program or website?

POI Factory | new & interesting places for your GPS for tons of poi listings
Garmin | Kenwood Software and Map Updates for Kenwood-specific updates from Garmin
Garmin: POI Loader for the POI Loader software you need to make the POIs for the nav unit (it's the output of this program you must put on the SD Card)

I'm thinking of driving down I-5 just to test the stinky area database.... Well, maybe not.

I have the mic mounted near the rear view mirror and nobody can hear me, they say I am quiet so it isn't road or exhaust noise. Should I have it remounted on the A pillar or on the steering column area? What has been better for you guys?

Also, anybody had issues with their ipod doing a "Authorization Error"? I get it a lot with both my 60gig ipod 5th and 8gb iphone. I restart the Kenwood and then it will work again for a while.

Last thing. Anybody who uses the NavTraffic XM Radio antenna: when you are on the XM station screen do you not see the volume level when you change it? I can't and it is a bit annoying sometimes.

This is a great head unit apart from minor issues so far!
