Default AVIC D3 & iPod Video

Thought I would pass this along. I recently installed a Pioneer AVIC D3 in my STI. Very nice unit, works great w/ XM etc. Well, I got one of the new iPod nanos and although I don't plan to really watch a lot of video in my car I wanted to try it out with the AVIC to see how well it worked. Needless to say it didn't. I went through a bunch of sites and found I was not the only one having this problem. Yes, I turned on the video out on the ipod and went through the AVIC manual several times. So I called my old college friend at Apple and asked him what gives. He checked with some of tech guys and found out that the new iPods use composite video for the output! This is not how the IP200 cable from Pioneer works. Just for interest I called Pioneer also and the tech said yep the new video iPods are not compatible for playing video on the AVIC D3 or any of the Pioneer in dash units. I asked if they intended to bring out a new cable and he did not know. This would fix the problem, but I am not optimistic that it will happen any time soon. It is possible to buy a cable from Apple that would also work and plug them into the video in cables in the AVIC D3 but you would then have two cables to deal with. Again, the AVIC D3 is great and this really does not effect my decision to buy the unit but it is a bit disappointing.

new ipods need the authentication cable. You either need to stick a uni dock between the ipod and the headunit or what for the authentication cable to come out from apple and use it. And then again there is no yellow on the composite they changed it to red lol damn apple making own color changes

Here are the Apple iPod vid cables:

HSPN TV - HD Videos on Demand - Powered by HSPN Networks, LLC

Note that the IP200 from Pioneer the video connection is not composite.

how's the ipod control otherwise? i have the avic-d2 and it's so brutally terrible i just use the aux in instead. i'm thinking maybe it's time for an upgrade.

Here is a link that answers the questions as to the new vs. old ipod cabling. The problem I see with my nano is that IP200 does not have a sensing out pin to the iPod so it cannot tell what video signal to send. When I connect it the nano keeps asking for me to connect the video cable.
