| STI Driver Feedback Score: 0 reviews | I have a 2005 STi with a CAI. Every once in a while, while in 3rd gear, my boost goes from the stock PSI (14.5 - 15) to 8 PSI. i have no leaks and i dont get a check engine light or anything. it continues to run at 8 PSI untill i disconnect the battery and then it goes back to normal. has anyone heard of this before? what do you think is wrong? Thank You! |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 | Assuming there is nothing wrong with your boost gauge, the only thing I can think of is that you are experiencing enough knock to drop your IAM (ignition advance multiplier) below the boost disable threshold. This will cause you to run wastegate boost levels (wastegate duty cycle set to 0 - i.e. fully open). That would be why it returns to normal when you reset the ECU; you are resetting IAM and any fine learning knock correction. I suggest you datalog your car or take it to a tuner. If your IAM is dropping that much then you're getting a serious amount of knock. |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2008 | Knock is the sound signature of detonation in your combustion chamber. There are a number of things that can cause this. If you're getting enough of a rattle on the knock sensor to drop your IAM down that fast, it may be real knock or it may not. Get it checked out to make sure you're engine is in good health and your tune is ok (sounds like you're stock anyway). Failing that, definitely look into the possibility of a faulty or loose knock sensor. The vibration of a loose sensor will falsly signal knock events. Good luck! |
