IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2007 | That looks like an APS turbo, probably an SR55 or SR56. It's not a GT35r like the dealer said because it's not rotated. If the compression and leakdown test come back fine then it's a good buy. DOn;t let the dealer do the test because they'll likely tell you it's fine even if a piston is low on compression. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2008 | Ok he sent me an email and he said it was an APS J56 Turbo. I really dont care what conrad said, no offense, but if everything comes back good im gonna get this one. i know what you said i agree that i dont know much about aftermarket parts and what not but if its all good itll save me money by buying the car already with the aftermarket parts in it. From what he told me all these parts are well worth more than 6000 dollars. As for the leakdown and compression tests he said he would take it to the subaru dealer in el paso. he said they are the only ones he will let touch that car. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2008 | conrad by all means is not trying to bring you down. He is in fact right that you seem to be better off with a stock STI that you can do the mods to later on down the road. Why would you buy a car with all of those mods (some of which you don't even know what they are). You don't know if it is tuned for the mods. You don't know if the previous owner raced the crap out of it etc. etc. I'm not telling you not to buy it... but take into consideration this. Sure, you're getting $6,000 worth of mods or whatever... But those $6,000 worth of mods could end up being over $6,000 worth of repairs down the road because you don't know the history of the car. Also... I'm sure you can get them to bring the price down. Last year when I bought my used 06 sti they wanted 30,000 I brought them down to 26,000 |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2008 | plus... it's a highly modded STi. But i agree... a newer driver to an STi is only asking for trouble if they are getting behind the wheel of a 400hp STi. For most, the stock setup is by all means fine. As far as buying this car in it's current condition, i would ask for the stock trunk back, and stock rims as well. And to bring down the price, you can certainly bring up to the point that its got 6,000 + dollars worth of work... so do your research with everything thats done, and subtract it from the normal price of a used 06 STi. you should be in good hands after that.... |

LOL, hardly. Just trying to help you not get in over your head. Hell, I'm guilty of having done that when I was younger (guessing about your age, 17-20?). Anyway, good luck and I hope it works out for you. Make the subaru community proud and don't drive like a ricer. BTW, if the bank will only give you $23K try to find a nice unmodded 05 sti. Get a cat back exhaust so you can enjoy the rumble and your set! | |
