Default Changing the spoiler question

Hey guys ive been reading the forums for a while, just have a quick question about swapping the STi spoiler for a WRX one. Is it possible to change the STi spoiler to a wrx spoiler without changing the whole trunk lid? Are the mounting holes matched for both?

No, the STi wing is attached to the trunk though 17 holes. That's why people have opted to swap the entire trunk instead of just the wings and then filling in the holes afterwards. It is also recommended that you swap torsion bars as well if you swap trunks because of the weight differences between the STi/WRX/RS trunks.

I still find it interesting that there is an odd amount of holes mounting the STI wing on.

I did it. No more drilling, cause the 4 holes fits the wrx wing but you need to live with those extra holes with plasters...it works for me ..whenever the mood strikes...i can put it back.

  • 12 holes for mounting bolts
  • 4 holes for locating pins
  • 1 hole for the brake light wiring
Does that make you feel any better?

gsrrep,
If you don't care about swapping back, go on NASIOC.com and offer a free swap to a person with a WRX, same year, same color who is local.

You can also try your dealer. When I bought my STi, I was thinking of switching to a WRX wing. My sales guy said he could find someone in an hour by calling his blue WRX customers.

I'd have the dealer shop do the swap. My dealer quoted me 1 hour. It involves:
1) swapping lids
2) swapping lock cylinders
3) swapping lift springs
4) and something else I can't remember.

The WRX owner was going to pay the shop charge. If you are a wrx owner and want a big wing its a great deal.

Don

p.s. in the end I decided to stay with the big wing

4) rear window third brake light (the STi won't have one after you remove the wing and you legally need one)
