The secret to a good launch is figuring out how to slip it out just right, dumping/side stepping the clutch on the launch is definitely a bad thing and a quick way to hurting your transmission or breaking axles since your applying a lot of power to a stationary mass.

It is pretty much impossible to try and help a person launch their car over the internet but I have had good success with slipping the clutch out in more or less a 2 step process. Where I release the clutch quicky to the engagement point causing the car to move forward, once the car has that rolling forward momentum I jump off the clutch. It may not work for you but it seems keep me consistently launching with 1.6 and 1.7 60' times.
