I ran 83.5 mph my fist time out in the 1/8 with 60 foots between 1.76 and 1.8 last summer in 80+ degrees. I think my mph actually got better when I short shifted first a little, but my time was worse. Times were consistently 8.4 and 8.5 depending on the launch. Also, I have cheap tires on the car and that makes a difference. What kind of tires are you running? Also, how is your launch? Are you bogging down at all? I hold at about 4500 rpms and slowly ease out till I feel it catches firmly. Never bogged it down doing that. I could have been more aggressive, but I like my stock motor mounts and clutch .

hmmm.

i ran a 13.2 @ 106 at stg 2.

trapping under 100 is where it is wrong...

1.9 could be improved, but the trap is much too low.

shifting fast?

well i talked to my buddy that watched me run and he said it sounded like maybe i was tapping limiter when i shifted since i was shifting so high and sti's have that glitch or whatever that raises the rpm if u put the clutch in and the gas out at the same time or something like that, but i shifted plenty fast never felt like it bogged when i shifted and my first run of the 2 i left at 4500 and it felt like it left real smooth my buddy said i didn't spin or anything and it for sure didn't bog when i left, the 2nd run i raised it up to 5000 and spuna little out of the hole and ran a slower time and mph. and im running falken 452's. it just felt like the car was dead out of 2nd like i said earlier it felt like i was still in the glue or like i was dragging a chute or something... FWIW tire press cold ( well 90 min after the first run, right before the 2nd) was 40psi all the way around, and i launched in auto dccd mode.

and the loss of power, well when i first got the sti it was by far the fastest car i ever drove so it seemed to really pull hard, now i dont know if im just used to it or if it has lost power over the last 6 months or any way to test it.

so to update i ran the car thru a few 4th gear pulls from around 4k. i noticed that it seems to pull fine until about 5-5.5k then seems to slow a bit and the tach needle seems to bouce or hesitate slightly between 6k and 7k. also my buddy stood behind the car and i reved it to 4k (no load) and he said there was a good bit of black smoke out the tail pipe. he has no scubie experiance tho so that might be normal?? anyway i'm doing a compression test tomorrow and installing my new plugs and getting a cable to do some data logs that should be here mid next week. until then does anyone have any ideas on why my car is doing what its doing? could it be the clutch? how can i tell if it is just slipping at high rpm but not any other time? if the compression test is good and the car still feels sluggish at high rpm after i install my new plugs what else could it be? maybe a head gasket or rings? and also does anyone have any tests i could do to see if maybe it is a head gasket or rings or clutch?

sounds just like it's running super rich up top. plugs might be fouled. when you take out the plugs for a compression test look at them to see if they are black. they should be a golden tan color, but with black smoke coming out of ur exhaust, I'd bet they're fouled.

alright well i pulled the plugs today and found out 3 of them were ngk 1 step colder and one was a normal heat range ngk. i talked to a friend of a friend that's a tuner in seatle and he said that could definitly cause the ecu to pull timing which is probably what happend. then i did a compression test and it read

f drivers 140 f pass 135
r drivers 133 r pass 140

which isn't too bad, so i installed my plugs and cranked it over and all the sudden i hear what sounds like rod knock?!?!?! never heard this before on my car and have no idea what caused it but we reved it to 2k rpm and held it there and it got alot quieter and eventually it went away?? weird anyway now the car feels great the knock sound is gone, never threw a CEL so i'm going to hit the track tomorrow and see what happens

ok so i changed up my lauch rpm and tire pressures and ran a 13.589 @ 99.32 with a 1.768 60ft and 8.609 @78.72 so i ran a faster time at a slower mph and still can't break 100mph at stg 2 or 80mph in the 1/8th. my first run of the day was a 14.2 but after the run i put my AP on ign timing and at WOT it was around 6 then i did the quick learn process and it stayed right around 18 when i ran my 13.5......so does anyone know why in the world i can't break into the 100's?

Something is not right. You should be able to at least trap 100 MPH on stage 2.
