IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2004 | I have heard 12.9 dead stock with nothing removed from the car and a 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. I miss my 04 with the wastegate spring and custom tune. Edmunds has the 08 STI 0-60 in 4.5 |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 | The fastest time is really meaningless, as your fastest time is all that's important. The fastest professionally recorded time comes from an '06 (13.0 @ 103.5, Motor Trend, Dec '05). Since the '06 is 88 lbs heavier than the '04 it stands to reason that the '04 could click off a 12.9 with no modifications, however, since the STi is generally a 13.3 @ 101 car, true 12.9 cars are few and far between. Beyond that, driver and conditions make a HUGE DIFFERENCE. The scene: Guy drives his '04 up to the tree the last week of racing season. His elevation is near or below sea-level, the temp is a cool 55°, humidity is non-existent, track temps are high because of the sun, and a pro-car has just made a pass using VHT. He concentrates on 3rd and 5th gear, the hardest to pull off quickly, while remmebering that he has a 218 lb advantage over the guy to his left in a stock '06 because he removed the bumper beams, front sub-frame, spare, jack, and tools...in just over an hour. Beyond that, he's running on fumes of 93 octane. He pulls up and gets the first yellow, then the second, he revs nearly to the red, the light turns green and the clutch is side-stepped, the RE070's launch him as if from a carrier with the help of VHT...what a beautiful low 1.6. He prays...then makes 3rd cleanly, he prays some more...then 5th...he's spent. 12.8 @ 105 This is absolutely possible, and don't think it's not. As for a truly stock car, 13.1 is about the best you can hope for with optimal conditions and a great driver. |
