Default here's a real newby question

Hi all.

Just planning to buy a 2006 model STI, took a long test drive and the following happened :

at one point while on the manual differential setting : lock ...while I was trying to turn the car arround on a narrow street, it felt like the car was blocked...like the hand break was pulled...and it moved as such...
Any ideea what that could have been? It felt like when you leave a car with the handbreak pulled on low temperatures for a long time..and it gets stuck..but in this case it was quite warm outside...and I had just taken a rather long ride in the STI...

The main question is ... on the dash board of the 2006-2007 model at the differential setting...I have Auto and then there is LOCK, and then four arrowheads pointing down "v". As far as I was able to feel the upper arrow is more back traction while the lower arrow is more forward traction.

What are the exact back front traction percentages for each dashboard symbol...and what is the lowest symbol "o" just below the lowest arrowhead and what does LOCK mean??? ???

Thank you kindly.

Oh jeez. I don't even know where to start with this. Sorry, I just don't have the endurance to write out a response. Here's a bump though.

Sorry...I was under the impression that this is the right place for such questions. And to make it even more of a hassle...since I am not a native english speaker...what's a bump ?

What LOL is referring to is that the center differential makes a lot of noise and vibration when it's in "Lock" and you do a tight turn. It's normal, and the owner's manual will tell you as much if and when you buy it. If you must do tight-radius turns, put the Diff in "Open."

Did you understand this? If not, I'll try to explain it again for you.

EDIT: A "bump" is a post meant to keep a thread at the top of the forum page, and therefore get more viewers.

yes...I did understand...thank you...although I feel a bit of what english native speakers call "irony" in your answer... I am gonna get my hands on a manual from my subaru dealer...but as I've said...I've not bought it yet and I was really curious as to these questions...
Can you tell me a bit about the proportions of traction on the differential ?
And one final thing...I am sure at one point in time you experienced such curiosity yourselves so I respectfully ask you to please try not to treat me like a complete idiot. Partial idiot will be ok !

Thank you

I did not intend to sound condescending. If that was the case, you have my apologies. I'll give you a bit of advice, for future reference, and this will keep people from becoming annoyed. Use the Forum's "Search" feature before asking a question or posting a thread. If you don't find what you need, say so and people will cut you more slack.

Happy motoring. Hope you get the STi!

EDIT: And to give people a hint that you're a non-native speaker, fill out your user profile and tell us where you're from!

S'okay. Now you know. There's a ton of stuff to learn here. Just remember that it's an online community, and in every community, there will be people who flame you. Believe me, there are worse sites about it. *cough*NASIOC*cough.

I agree on all counts. I didn't mean to make you feel small, you just asked a very broad question, of which many people hold incorrect beliefs. Imagine if I asked you, "How do tires (tyres) work?", and my native language was Japanese.

All right. I did search and came up with some answers to this issue of mine however the thing is the answers reffered to exclusively the pre-2006 model 2L engine Subaru. I was under the impression that on the new model the proportions have slightly changed. Now...if there was a thread about this...I could have missed it...so don't as we say down here in my country :
