Thanks a million for your responses they make perfect sense. I have another question though, what comes after stage 2 performance wise?

hi just a question on downpipes. when and if we decide to change it without ECU tuning, will the ECU run in SAFE mode. if so, how does SAFE mode run compared to NORMAL and how would you overcome this? thanks chaps...

Can you confirm the placement of the pickup sensor being between the check valve and the intake? Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the help!
The vaccuum line for the stock boost gauge is located on T from the Bypass valve, which is attatched to your intercooler.

The choice to change to a gauge with psi is totally up to you.

"Stages" aren't set in stone, they will differ between manufacturers.

If you are reffering to Cobb's stage 2 Power Setup (AP, TBE) then there are many "little" parts you can add, along with additional protuning. Things like: Intakes, Pulleys, and Turbo Inlets are popular post stage 2 mods.

Whatever you do above stage 2, be sure to check with your local tuner to make sure that it is a safe idea to implement the modification.

Greetings from overseas.

I think the safe mode that you are reffering to is the Limp mode that the ECU creates if something is wrong with the state of your motor. However, it is entirely possible that your STi will be running dangerously lean without the ECU creating a limp mode. This is why ECU tuning is so crucial after a modification like a downpipe.

Okay I have a couple Q's. I just bought an 06 STI that the previous owner modded and he installed a blow through MAF so my Q's are....

1. What is the reasoning behing this mod?
2. What are the benefits of this mod?
3. What companies make Blow through MAF
4. Is there an EM system that will allow the MAF to be deleted?

Before I answer that, what other mods are on the car? Larger-than-stock turbo?

Super n00b question!:

What are some OEM companies that supply the STI (performance) parts?

BBS?
Bilstein?
Brembo?
MOMO?
Recaro?
(STI is rather obvious)
