First, only Subaru of America can void your warranty. Your dealership can only deny you service.

That said, you can put an intake (short ram, cold-air, etc.) on the car if you like, and they'll probably ignore it. Not 100% guaranteed. Performance mods of any kind carry the risk of borking your warranty UNLESS they're SPT parts (which, the general consensus says, suck).

Mods you can always get by with are the little things. Wheels and tires. A nice A/V system. A catback exhaust. Disabling your DRLs and seat belt chime. Trunk swaps, etc.

The BEST modification is track time! Modify the driver.

Truthfully, unlike other cars, intakes don't do much for STI's. If you want that "woooshing" sound, go for it, but you'd be much better off performance-wise with an exhaust, ECU flash (AccessPORT), etc.

If all he wants is the whooshing of the turbo, he can remove the stock intake silencer. There's a How-to.

OK, if you want the "woooshing" sound and a frickin bandsaw making noise under your hood, you could get a typhoon LOL. I agree though, removing the intake silencer is the way to go for sound. Much less obnoxious than an aftermarket intake, and you can't beat the price .

With the SPT Hi-Flow intake, how much HP & LB/ft do you think that will yield for the 07 STI's?

SPT parts are not exactly well-liked. Some of them even hurt performance. FWIW (For what it's worth) there are better ways to to spend your money. Intakes are okay (there are better pieces available than the SPT, though the SPT is dealership friendly), but if you want real power, bank the dough and save for an AccessPort, downpipe, and a tune.

So to answer your question, I don't know.

Little, if any. I'd think you'd be very lucky to get more than 5hp. Some companies claim as much as 12hp (k&n) but I don't believe a word of it.

Yes, it is possible (in most cases), but can be very complicated.

Yes, it is expensive. Especially if you don't do the work yourself.
