i just got an 07 sti, had it for about a week! anyways... this is my first car with a turbo, and to be honest i know nothing about them, so im trying to learn as much as i can asap!... ive been looking for upgrades for my sti, but i dont know what to do to it.. there are so many things that i read by so many people.. for example i would like to change my bov, but i read that if i do that, i will lose horsepower! is this true????? i was in the process of purchasing a greddy type s bov cuz i like the way it sounds, but the guy whos was selling it told me that he wouldnt recommend me installing this bov with out an e-manage system! what's an emanage system, what does that do? where can i get a system management done? and y would i need that to install the bov????...i also looked into getting a TBE but i read it wouldnt work well with a stock turbo.. is that true???? my sti came with the SPT catback exhaust, and SPT cold air intake...from the dealership, so would it be best if i stay with that instead of installing a turboback exhaust??? dang.. there are so many question i wanna ask, but im too lazy to type! any info yall can give me would be greatly appreciated!!! i also wanted to know what are the best upgrades for my sti, performance wise...going back to bov's what would be the best recommended bov's for an sti??? or should i just stay with the stock bov??? please give me some info!!!! thanks!

It just a different way of measuring.
The sodium filled valves were dropped because the exhaust valves were redesigned. The sodium-filled design was no longer necessary (I believe it had something to do with cooling, but I'm not 100% sure).

And yes, the engine makes the same power. Power = same. Formula = changed.

1- If it was a shop that told you that you needed an E-Manage to run a BOV then NEVER go back to them for ANYTHING. An E-Manage is an Engine Management system and you would not need that for a BOV... and even if you needed an EM system I would not go with the Greddy E-Manage on an STI.

2- You do not need a BOV...technically you don't have a stock BOV you have a BPV (ByPass Valve) and it should be good to well over 20lbs of boost.

3- A TBE will help the car make power but you will also want to look into some kind of Engine Management or a Pro-Tune at that point.

Do not get a BOV. It doesn't do anything but hurt you on a stock or even lightly modified setup.

Engine Management, or EM (or ECU), is the computer that controls how your engine functions. When you hear people refer to tuning, most of the time (when it comes to these cars) they're referring to modifying the "maps" of the EM. You might be able to run a BOV more safely with a properly tuned EM, but I dunno how it would help power.

An External Wastegate (EWG) is a whole different ballgame.

A turboback exhaust, specifically a downpipe, is a required modification if you want to go Stage 2 (which means more power, and involves at LEAST a downpipe and an EM, such as Cobb's Accessport).

If you're too lazy to ask, you're definitely not going to get help. If you're too lazy to search, you're not going to get help for very long. All the information you need is contained herein. DO NOT GET A BOV. It doesn't belong on this engine in stock, or lightly modified form. It's appropriate with certain upgrades, but these are prolly a long way off. Unless you want your engine to run rich (this is bad), don't get a BOV. No. No. No.

If you want a neat sound or something, search for "intake silencer delete." That should give you your sound without harming the car.

EDITED to remove idiotic mistake

Hey guys,

Complete Noob here, however I am quite a decent wrench turner.

Anyway, I have found with turbo vehicles, reducing back pressure seems to be very beneficial. so here are my plans.....

1) Can I run a downpipe with no cats with the AP and not have any CELs?

2) Would an Uppipe (between the block and the turbo) be beneficial? (I have heard that it helps?)

3) What is the best intake to run? and can the AP make it safe?

4) Can the AP adjust the proper fuel settings for safe A/Fs? and if so, are there pretuned maps to possibly download?

Lastly.......(sorry for the long post)

5) Is there anywhere on the forums with a recommended mod list? (what to look for, what to do and not to do, etc....)

Thanks guys

If I were to upgrade to a FMIC, would I be able to hook up the stock intercooler spray water tank to it?

I don't see why not, but FMICs haven't got the heat-soak issues of TMICs, which the sprayer was designed to combat.

In other words, you can, but it's not necessary.

I think you meant to say rich? A BOV dumps air, that was metered for fuel, to atmosphere. Thus the injectors are still told to inject fuel for extra air that is not there.
