Mine are set all the way up so the lower settings are useless to me other than what I described above...

Most high-end automakers use auto leveling HID lights. Subaru put a manual knob there because it was cheaper. All HID lights must have leveling ability by law. When you have passengers in the rear seats, the back of the car sinks down and the front points higher. You need something to be able to adjust the headlights so as to not blind oncoming traffic.

I have learned that my 2006 sti have the worst headlights ever (they are bright as hell) but they only range from 10-25 feet in front of me which sucks something must be wrong with them

I prefer to think of it as another driver-controlled feature, in keeping with the hands-on spirit of the STi.

Some countries even require self-leveling systems. Hence the reason our Canadian neighbors have no HIDs in their STi's.

Adjust them. There are manual screws that allow you to adjust the baseline of each lamp.

If you drive on the highway for more than ~15 minutes and it is raining, it will seem like your brakes don't work on first application. You have to slam them compared to normal. It has caught me off guard when I was half asleep going to work in the morning a few times.

As noted earlier - If you bump the shifter while using cruise control, it will be disabled and you will have to reset it.

You can take apart the front grill STi emblem (04) and paint the pink portion another color.

You can feel the knockback in the brake pedal (04) if going around an off ramp clover faster than you sould be and slam on the brakes.

Set your trunk to only open with the key and not from inside the car if you have any car audio gear back there. It makes it much more difficult for noob thiefs.

They seem to come from the factory aimed low on purpose, probably to not blind oncoming traffic. Several people have written about adjusting them up, and how much better they light the road once adjusted. One in particular re-aimed his lights to where he wanted them to be, while the adjuster was set to 1. That way he could still lower them a bit if necessary. Search IWSTI, I read it here.

Sounds worthwhile in that afterwards the adjustment knob will be actually useful...
