Default Noobie interested in mods for 05 STI

Hello all! I'm new to this forum and a noob to the STI modding world. I recently purchased an 05 STI with 9k. I drove her up from cali up to Alaska. I have already put on exhuast from the Turbo back. My exhuast lacks a cat but I can't complain but I'm needing advice as to what else I can mod that doesn't involve going into the engine. I still have quite a bit of warranty left and I don't want to sabatoge it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

well thats pretty hard to say if you want to avoid going to the engine, and in a sense you already did if you went TBE. so im taking you didnt get EM (engine management). so i would watch out for boost creep, gettin cel. in order to restrain boost creep, not cure, Cobb Access Port is the best way to go, as most of of here on the forums use it. use the search, it will help alot. and it can go back to stock settings if you were to get rid of it down the road.

but if your looking cosmetics, then they're tons that you can do, check my journal if you wish as well as others, everyone's got something different, and very unique to each their own. i did alot of cosmetics before performance, im just starting on performance myself.

good luck, and just remember, once you get the mod bug, you wont stop it no matter what, hahaha!

As I said before lol I am such a noob but a fast learner lol I was talking to the guys at Rallitek and I'm thinking of getting one of their piggy back computers. Could I possibly tune from this? I'm in AK and off hand I don't know anyone who "TUNES" and that's the biggest problem.

STi's with turboback exhausts -- especially catless -- have a tendency for the boost level to overwhelm the ability of the wastegate and BPV to bleed it off, hence the boost level keeps rising and rising, often to dangerous levels. This is "boost creep".

Even though lots and lots of people do it, just doing a TBE without other mods (boost gauge, engine management) is not a smart move on an STi.

Definently some kind of engine management tuning always makes a world of difference. I say stick with ECUtek or Cobb Accessport both give awesome results try to stay away from the TurboXS Utec only because fuel maps and ignition maps are static. Do not waste your money on an intake and BOV they yield minimal power gains unless you get a turbo upgrade or a tune.

You can get rid of the stock resonator for starters. Maybe suspension next like coilovers maybe a brake upgrade then a front mount then a turbo upgrade. STI is already a great car stock besides suspension, exhaust and intake every other power upgrade is like a huge step.

Welcome to the boards, and congrats on the car!!! Def get some EM, Cobb Accessport is very user friendly, and the best thing is, you can set it at Stg2 for the mods you already have! www.Cobbtuning.com Check it out and read up on it. Also, like NJSTi05 said, check people's journals and see what they reviewed on the mods they put in. I have some power mods in my car, so check mine as well. Good luck, and have fun! One mod that you might consider is getting lessons at a track to better learn how to really drive the car!!!! Have fun!

I can drive lol no question about that but I've never modded a car is my problem lol. The one question I have for you guru's is this, are the EM systems easy to use for someone like me who has never used one??? I'm pretty familiar and proficient with pc's but I know that probably won't make a lick of difference in this area. I just want to make sure if I drop the coin on something like that, that it's something I can actually use and not have to keep harrassing you guys like some little brother lol. Thanks for all the info back guys! I love the **** outta my STI. I've owned a SVX, 5th gen prelude, Acura TL and they are nothing compared to sti's lol in my humble opinion. Thanks again guys!!!

6th the recomendation for engine managment. i suggest cobb ap for ease of use. if you want to go with handling upgrades, consider a set of sways (i like whiteline) and some springs (jdm pinks are popular) along with camber plates (if your going to do any performance driving) and hardended strut tops. perhaps a short throw shifter setup from tic.
