Default Get the 06 now or wait???

Is there ANY difference if I get the car now instead of Jan 06?
Are the dates on the paper works (Dec 05 vs Jan 06) going to affect the value of the car now or later on?
And, umm...........what would be the reasons for you not to get an 06 Right now? and wait?

Thanks

I'm waiting to see what the next gens look like for model year 2008, which should be coming late 2007, along with the Evo X. The only thing that matters on vehicle value is model year, not production date.

Um, this is in the wrong section.

And it is probably better to get a car towards the end of this month, because dealers want to clear off as much inventory as possible before January 1st so they don't have to pay taxes on it.

That's what I was hoping. The salesguy I was talking was saying at first they had a really good year and didn't need to sell, but when I walked out, they were a lot more motivated and kept calling me back until I got what I originally asked for. After I signed the papers, we were just chatting and they mentioned how slow it was this time of year .

Care to share what you paid? Your in Vancouver right? The dealer here doesn't want to move from MSRP, so I'll probably import from the US this spring.

There is no good time to buy a car. The dealer's use the end of the month /end of the year tax clearance to trick you into thinking you got a good deal. Go to the dealership and ask how much they will sell you the car for. I think the dealer price on an STi is like 31,500 or something. If you are within a thousand bucks its a deal.

That's not a trick. I make sure to lower my inventory levels at the end of the year because I have to pay taxes on whatever inventory I still have in stock.

Of course, a good buyer would already know how much they are willing to pay before they even go to the dealership. The end of the year thing just makes it a little easier to haggle with the dealer.

For me, it was all about getting a good value for my trade-in because the higher the value, the less taxes I would have to pay and more money I would save. According to what I found on the net my old car was valued between $30-35K CAD.

Actually, I didn't even go in thinking that I would buy the STI that day. I just went to see if they had any on the lot and to check out what Steel Grey looked like in person. About a month earlier they had 3 on the lot. When I went there was only one left. Because I felt no pressure to buy, I was comfortable with walking away if I didn't get what I wanted for my trade and that's what I did. Negotiating was easy because they kept calling me back after I left the dealership. They kept trying to change the deal, but I stuck with my original request and only gave in a little.

The STI was MSRP but they gave me $35.5k for the trade-in plus they included OEM fog lamps and installation for $250 CAD on top of the net balance (I had asked for fog lamps to be included). I felt this was a good deal for me. If the dealership played me, then I'm the biggest fool in the world because I'm happy with it.

Another dealership said they would move $1000-$1500 off of MSRP but I never got as far as talking about my trade. They sold the one I was hoping to get last weekend and didn't have any more in stock.

(A third and fourth dealership said they wouldn't move off MSRP. Neither of them had stock either.)
