IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | I bought a Toyota in spring of 2003. It was my first major car purchase... a purchase that I thought was a good one... I only cared about reliability and fuel efficiency... I had been burned by my previous car and swore to never buy a used vehicle again... That December, a friend of mine mentioned the WRX. I had never heard of the car and was frankly uninterested. Something about 4 cylinders, turbo, whatever... The craze was new in the states. The 4-banger turbo was about to sweep the nation and I was putting along in what was about to become a part of the dying breed of high strung four cylinder engines. I didn't care. I didn't mind but. But, i felt like the way one feels the day the leaves start to fall in autumn. I searched for a fix but found none. My toyota kept putting along and yet i was uncomfortably content. I began to research the WRX and learned its roots. I discovered a world of rally championship racing that i little understood. Peter Soblerg and Tommy Makinen were names that i had no clue of origin. I sat in the car on a winter afternoon in December of 2003. It was a blue wagon and my brother was at the wheel, my good friend in the back seat with the salesman, and I in the front with a slight smile on my face. We pulled up at the light and my brother muttered something... and then in a flash we were off!.. I turned to look at the backseat and my neck struggled to keep my head from touching the headrest. A surge of energy that for a moment made time stand still. Good god! My soul swelled with joy!! This is what i was missing and thought i had! The curtain, that for so long veiled the sinister lie, was pulled back to reveal the truth. I had to get out of the toyota and into the subaru. I struggeld to find a solution to the unfortunate financial predicament i was in. A trade was not an option, my car's value had dropped terribly from its original purchase value. I vowed to return a year later and buy the WRX. A year passed and I realized that my car's value was only worse than it was the year before. I was disappointed but not surprised. I decided I would have to wait another year. I struggled with myself. I began to feel that there were no options, that I was not going to be able to afford my dream. So, I waited again, and again I realized that it was not possible to buy the car. I spent time researching, really thinking was it really worth it. I have a nice car, was it really that important to me? Not a day passed that someone would see the "wing" on the back of my car and feel the need to laugh at it and race me. I got my ass handed to me a variety of ways. SUV's, trucks, chevy's, oldsmobiles, pontiacs, you name it, any car you can think of... and i never stood a chance. I kept reading and learning. I decided I needed to experience the subaru again. I went to an autocross this summer and rode in a 05 STi (Stage 2). If there were was ever a thought that it was not necessary to change cars, that it was not worth the wait nor the pain it is taking to the save the money for the downpayment that will finally buy me freedom, it ended that day. Never will I be able to forget the push and pull, the reving of the engine, the tires screeching, and the pavement that rushed below us.... I have scoured the internet for every video, for every image. It is not, and never will suffice the insatiable appetite I have for the STi. So I wait. Once again this year I can not afford it but I am still saving. I've just been waiting and waiting, but perhaps next december I will get a chance to live the dream. IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | Wow, nice story. I know your feeling.....I have a 1986 Camaro for about 5 years until I saved enough money to buy the STi...and thats 5 years of Z rated tires in the snow ON THE HIGHWAY! You will get it, trust me, my bank accound went to like near zero many times, and I was able to pull it off. Just save money, do anything you can, get a second job, and be done with school! If your in school, worry about that. Think of it like this, you finish school and do very well, and get a great job, you can have a good job that you are no able to afford the car, do crappy, work at a low-income crappy job, your screwed.......so save, wish, go to meets if there are any in your area.....and just learn more about the car, this way, when you get it, you will know what to do and what not to do for mods....good luck and keep saving! |

It kind of reminds me of when I was little and wanted a Nintendo so bad (but my family couldn't afford it) so I kept saving and saving and I finally got it (grandparents paid $50 and parents paid $25, so really I only saved $25 but that's a lot of a 3rd grader). I was so happy that day and for many days to come. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 Trader Rating: (7) | Wonderfull stroy. I was in the same boat when I was 16. Watching Rally on TV with my father, told him I wanted that subaru. He just chuckled and said, sure get it, but work for it. So I went to school, worked and all. Well my 1st car was a Toyota Camry 1987, which my passengers were rats and squirrels. Get the picture ![]() Then after saving and all I went for the 2001 RS, loved every corner of it. But then the STi came in sight, and kept saving, and sweating for it. But here I am, driving the STi, which I must say, when I am behind the wheel every bad, worries thoughts I have just dissappear. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2005 Trader Rating: (3) | quite the writer! quick story short, first car was 88' mazda 626, good first car, second car, 92' integra gs-r. awesome, loved that thing. it got stolen. received a 98 transam as a college graduation gift. something i wanted when i was like in 7th grade cuz it looked so cool.. but after driving it for a while.. i really disliked it. after two years of working, saving, what not, picked up my PSM 05 STi. i never thot i'd get a subi, but now that i own it, not one day goes by that i regret it. i LOVE my car. good luck to you and ur quest towards your STi. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | Excellent story, but always remember, it's just a car...and you'll get used to it after you have it. I don't want to kill any of your love for it, I just don't want you to be let down in any way if something happens to it, or it's not as perfect as you remember it when you finally get one. Having said that, I love my STi as much as any car I've ever owned... IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | Thanks all for words of encouragement. I am so close now and I am pretty sure that by 2007 I will be able to do it. I just feel a bit disappointed that it will not be my x-mas present to myself this year. At least for now I have these great forums to read about everyones' enjoyment, and I truly share your enthusiasm as my own. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | I can hear that beat running through my mind. A heart sickening pulsation that beats as a symbol of a love for a machine. This will be the year. When right before my dreams could fade from my memory the match of hope was thus struck! I can feel it every night and every day. When orpheus comes through the windows in my nocturnal sojourn so does my joy. I feel myself ripping through the gears, the needles glow as they dance before me. The holy glow rinses my face and my teeth chatter in ecstacy. I find myself driving down old roads from a place far in my memory. My awd chariot blazen against the blue of my hollow memories... I can't control my happiness, as finally all my work and efforts shall go rewarded! The most important accomplishment is but a few months away, but its reality is inevitable. Only God can separate me now. 07 STi wayward... Last edited by rgt; 11-10-2006 at 10:31 AM. |

After having the brand new cars go to the wife and me gettin the seconds is was nice to get what I REALLLLLLY wanted. Be patient and learn what you can. When the time is right you will be the proud owner of an STI. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
